Strangely enough I have just been reading a thread about the Nikau Palm on the European palm society forum. The New Zealand members have advised that the Palm can get damaged at -3C and can be killed at -5C. Everything else should survive comfortably. Juania's are sometimes sold in the UK but are sn...

Sheesh... -24C  I hope it don't get that cold Barb. That's still pretty early in the season for that. I'd hate to think what temps would be experienced at higher altitudes. Andy, our lowest in November is minus 34.8C by the way. Jay, Barb, Aaron sorry for this cold. Jim, take care, yours in ...

My loquat has grown very well this year. I get bugs disfiguring the leaves during the summer months but spring and autumn growth is usually bug free. Main problem in Winter is snow weight on the stems. Not had a Narnia Winter to contend with yet as its only been in the ground for two years. I'm look...

Yucca Decipiens and Filifera
I'd love to own a trunked Filifera but with a hardiness of only -8C I'm loath to buy one even though they are as common as muck over here. Yucca decipiens on the other hand is considerably hardier and looks similar in appearance. So i'm somewhat bemused by the fact that they are as rare as hens teet...

Yucca Rupicola
I thought I might update you on that strange Yucca that was sold to me as Rupicola and now growing a a much smaller one it certainly does not look like Rupicola. Thanks for your comments :D Igor.. I have since potted up tim's hybrids. I'll see how they get on but planting straight into the ground is a no no here. The slugs and snails would soon devour them. My wooded Aloe Striatula still gets shredded by these beasts  Adam.... thanks for your comments....
