elata is nothing compared to aloifolia! those spines are super sharp and rigid.......ouch! 8)

I tend to remove the leaves from my elata.......but on the other hand I've never had any rot issues with my elata either and we get 4" of precipitation every month here......we are only zone 6b

Hi Aaron

as far as i know Y. schottii blooms in July-September.....I guess depending on elevation. If this area is warmer than their native areas it still could be a schottii since those blooms are still emerging and it's June. :?

Hi Andy, Y. decipiens is very rare over here in the States too. I still have never gotten one. I killed a couple trunked Y. filiferas back in 2002-2003. Hi Aaron,

nice find......my first guess would be Y. schottii too......I see some bloom emerging on those Yuccas. Y. schottii blooms late.....any idea what time of season that photo was taken?

Hi Andy I think the new leaves on the Metapanax delavayi got fried during our first freeze......likely 30F (-1C) or so. The Metapanax davidii has no damage on any leaves and our low has been 22F (-5.5C).....but the M. davidii does not have any 'new' leaves. The M. delavayi older leaves still look fi...

Hi Barb, not much being protected yet......I generally drag in all the containers on the cold nights or place a tarp over them......not many non hardy plants in the garden....I guess the least hardy plants in my garden is the Trachycarpus nainital, Loquat, Metapanax's, Fatsia, Aloes and Tetrapanax.....

you may have to take a closer photo of the leaf edge or feel the serrations with your finger. :shock: The serrations are not as pronounced as Yucca aloifolia. I'm testing Metapanax delavayi this year for hardiness....I'll protect this winter and see what happens. Last week the newer leaves got fried.....not a good start.

Update...........Aloe ecklonis's outer leaves were fried last week while other Aloes were not............not good for A. ecklonis. I may dig them up. To clarify......most rostrata will have a serrated leaf edge. The form of rostrata without a serrated leaf edge is the variety called 'integra'. Thomposoniana leaves will generally be shorter in length and will have more rigid leaves when compared to rostrata. 8)

Hi Aaron

Sorry for the long delay. Y. thompsoniana has a serrated leaf edge. Y. rostrata can have a serrated leaf edge. The rostrata form without a serration is called Y. Rostrata v integra. The two rostrata I have are somewhat intermediate......the serration is not pronounced but is there.
