Thats what I was thinking as well. I planted one away from the house, and am going to keep the one indoors. I want to take some cuttings, but there is no semi hard or hardwood, its all green and apparently cuttings from green wood (in regards to figs) dont take too well. Im hoping to get some more, ...

Ensete seed question
I never seem to have great success germinating banana seed. I managed to germinate a few but I have tried the 2 Ensete species multiple times without any luck. Last year i got a batch and sowed them around august. Until a week or 2 ago they were in a baggie with some moist medium. All seeds had no r...

Thanks Mike Ive read they rather like being rootbound, and are usually planted with pavement slabs to restrict root growth for better fruiting. You saying they would like to be potted for a few years makes a lot of sense. I would have to wrap it and use deep mulch. The snow does a rather good job of...

Question for the fig growers
I managed to find 2 figs labeled "hardy fig tree; zone 6". IF the picture on the tag is a proper representation of the plant, then im pretty sure its " brown turkey". I want to try it to see if i can get some of it to survive. The best odds I see is to plant it really close to my...

You mean that big ole maple? I love maple trees. They look great, grow fast and give lots of shade.... the problem with them is they are horrendously shallow rooted, and they break branches off in high winds if they arent surrounded by other trees. I wouldnt plant one within 500 feet of my house.......

Speakin of your Yucca tim, do you remember that odd seedling that I had from your batch of seed? Well, its growing really slow in the small pot, so im going to repot it or get it in the ground, dispite its small size. Either way, Turns out another seed gernimated in that pot, and it seems to be simi...

andy My problem is making sure that it gets the proper cold for the winter. My front porch might work, but the temp swings are crazy in there and there is nothing to protect the roots. My garage isnt insulated, and my basement is too warm. The only option I have is to put it outside I think. At leas...

Jesse- The thing with the larger leafed Magnolia species is that they need some serious heat to harden off properly before winter. You get cold enough that even well hardened wood MIGHT be in trouble anyway. M. tripetala is definitely the one to mess with, the furthest 'north' (north meaning cold i...
