took a picture of my foxtail this weekend. I got it in August 2006. It has grown about 18" in the last 12 months. From what I have read they start to grow fairly quickly at around 4' tall. We'll see.

gotta agree. leave them. However, I'd get rid of any brown wolf spiders or other potentially dangerous ones if you see them. A healthy dose of respect for any spider you can't identify is wise.

Just getting caught up on soem posts. I recognize that little foxtail. He looks good. They are slow growers when young/small. Maybe by the end of summer he'll pick up a little speed.

I usually plant a couple of those in ground in a semi- shaded part of a border and they grow like mad. Great looking fan palm, nice job for $10. I'll give you $6 for it.

sounds just like what I put up with at my house. I germinate a seed and I have a party i.e. high fives all around, jumping up and down, etc. However, the people in my house (my family) could care less. They complain about brown fornds, small bugs flying around (soil gnats) and high humididty levels....

Love the Bottle Palm. I bought one 2 years ago at a local nursery for about $20. It was during the winter, discounted etc. It struggled thru the winter, came back last summer and really looks pretty good right now. It made it thru winter inside in a west window.

Steve - I'm with you on the appreciation for the Livistonia family. I have two very healthy and very large Liv Chinensis that are as happy inside in the winter as they are outside in summer. They are not fussy and they are very easy to care for. A big thumbs up.

Don't know what you can dig up, but you can save yourself from being arrested for trespassing by stopping by Home Depot, Lowes, etc and buy yourself some nice big cold hardy palms for about 1/3 of what it would cost you around here.
