It it about 8 feet tall and six years old, so once it is in it does not go out again till next year. I bring it in because below maybe 45 f a few nights...

Has anyone seen pawpaw growing wild in Niagara? (Asimina tri
I have been growing pawpaw trees (Asimina triloba) for about 6 years now, and propagating them for three years. Has anyone seen a wild tree or grove of pawpaws growing in the Niagara area or anywhere in Ontario? I would love to have a photo of a local large specimen. I have found a small grove along...

Is that a 'normal' store grapefruit? Nice Yuccas too. Do you have any special Yuccas? These are normal store bought grapefruit. I planted the seeds just for fun. Last night was our first hard frost this year. So glad I guilt its glasshouse around it on wednesday! Two 40 watt bulbs add about 10 c in...

Absolutely. I had to get my thermocube online from the U.S. as well, but I think it was maybe 20 dollars everything in. The only reason I ever put a pomegranate outside was when I lived in Hamilton, ON (zone 6a) I had three.. I planted two outside and kept one inside. It blew my mind that it never d...

Since we've been here in Beamsville, our coldest nights have been: 2011 (-17 to -20 celcius for 15 hours straight ), 2010 (-17 c), 2009 (-17c) In the hoophouse, the ground never froze, due to daytime heating by the sun. The coldest night in there had to be about -12c. In the glassbox we put on a sec...

Growing grapefruit and pomegranate outdoors in zone 6b/7a
Here is how we do it. The pomegranate doessurvive with no protection, but takes a while to pop back in the spring if only shielded from winter wind. Pomegranate here was planted summer 2008 at 3 years old from seed. Grapefruit here was planted summer 2009 at 2 years old from seed. http://www.youtube...

I keep my grapefruit tree with a light bulb in a glass box in my hoop house, so yes, it is heated. Guess what happens when it is -17 and you water and forget to turn the light back on after? Grapefruits defoliate at -8.6 celcius! That was after about twelve hours of no heat. But with no more mishaps...

Thanks, I found the glauca growing in front of a highrise apartment building in Hamilton, 2008... they were out of control and I worked it out with the super that I could help myself to whatever I wanted, since he was scared of how sharp they were! I potted up a half dozen and kept this beauty. The ...

I love your palm gardens and ingenuity to winter- protect them! I have a five year old pomegranate and a grapefruit tree that has been outdoors here in zone 6b/7a for three years now (I build a heated hoop house over the grapefruit tree each winter). As well, we have 16 species of Yucca, and a 8' ta...

Ok I agree, even MY basjoos have droopy leaves... that likely is not basjoo. The Florida nurseries commonly sell: zebrina rojo, cavendish dwarf, and misi luki. I have had all four including basjoo... and this reminds me of when my misi lukis were 10 feet tall with a trunk base 8 inches across... the...
