3 of 72 seeds have sprouted. That basically makes me an expert right?😀 Yup...as long as it doesn't end at 3.  For some of these Yuccas, do you need to have the seed go through a slight freeze cycle before germination plantings? Many seeds still left on the Y. Filim. stalks, t...

Manganese is important for palms.

Good work.
I'd lift the plastic dome an inch or two at one corner to let excess moisture escape.
Yuccas don't need a lot of humidity to pop (unlike palms).

Look forward to seeing 'em pop.

Good to see it.
doesn't look wilted, marceli.

Young, new-ish leaves are always lighter than older ones.

Maybe raise it higher to get more light?

my indoor rostrata's leaves are wilting. Should I stop watering it at all? It grows in plastic pot with sandy-gravel soil, so very quick drying. It has very little light, unfortunately, but temperature is pretty high. I know, it's bad for overwintering. :? If wilting, it needs water. But needs cool...

Igor, thought it was just my sabals that didn't grow in a pot.

Chad, agree that it'll be good to see which seedlings make it.

last princep, smallest one didnt make it through last winter. Fingers crossed!
After all our experiences with small palms, I think we're convinced that palms should be older/larger before planting them outside.
With few exceptions they seem to do better when older.

Neat to see the seedlings popping up like that. Had no idea they were so difficult to transplant. I planted a 4-strap leafed sabal last fall out of sheer frustration that it hadn't grown at all in the pot in 4 or 5 years. Then I forgot to protect it when temps hit -21C...and a month later 2 feet of ...

ppl soaked their seeds in water till they popped. Then they planted them.
I've always done that, with palms, yuccas, everything.
Works well to soften the hard seed coat, saves some time.

PS--added hydrogen peroxide (3%) to soaking water.

Oh Jim, I'm so sorry for your loss.
There's never a good time to lose a loved one, but Christmas makes it even tougher.

In retrospect it was good that you were able to spend so much time in AZ with your Mom and sister last year.
Versus being at home in Fairfield.

My condolences, Jim.

Not sure if they were good/bad seeds or I did something wrong? Generally procedure is at fault (versus seed quality). I haven't germinated many yuccas, but the ones that made it popped during winter next to the wood stove in the basement; warm concrete floor under seed pots. Wet/cold seldom germina...

dead at the first sign of frost Well, apart from the age of the palm that you plant, I think the trick is to always protect palms well ahead of any sign of frost. Perhaps even a type of cover that can be opened on mild days if you get a warm spell before the depth of winter cold arrives. And perhap...
