Id agree with barb about the sabal ( not experience, just reading). They usualy grow in the forest, in sunnier areas. I think the term is "open shade". Metal here is crazy right now. I read an article that silver prices exploded, or are set to. People have been stealing power lines, and c...

Charles, I might hire someone to do that just so I could get on with the gardening project. And you could keep an eye on the work while you're out there... :angry7: Re the earth tones...good plan, goes with everything you might plant. We've got 30+ year old "orangeish" bricks at the front...

Actually, that is part of the plan. After I strip the old paint- which is beginning to peel in earnest. Plus, I want to paint the brick parts as well. Moderate earth tone- blend in with the flora.

I have loads of mad schemes for the Spring. I will most likely complete the palmscape by acquiring some Saw Palmettos. Last year's mail order specimen showed up distressed and croaked. Same with the Mazari I bought, so I may try for another one of those as well. I have to complete the Japanese Garde...

Since when is bad for a tree to get wet? They live outside. I think its a matter of how much prolonged exposure to excessive moisture, particularly in the crown area. Coconut palms epitomize the tropics and I love the curved trunks. But I think date palms win with me.

Their fonds remind me of fireworks exploding. Date palms are seen in desert, meditereanean, and tropical landscapes. Very versatile, yet not cold hardy.

True enough. I have set up another area away from the furnace with plant lights. Perhaps I can put it there. Ironically, I have a potted Butia and its thriving next to the furnace under two plant bulbs. Go figure.
