Hi,

I think you have Syagrus romanzoffiana-"Queen Palm" on your hands. If this is true, I think an unprotected zone 7 winter would be tough for this plant. The official book on the hardiness of this palm is around 18 degrees (-7C). Good luck!

These were taken around 8:30 this morning, after some of the overnight snow had melted! It's now a cold rain again at my place. Like I always say, I'm going to need a new climate for my hobby! My Trachy, Rostrata and Needle seem to be enjoying the chill! Now two nights of -2 Celsius frosts to ...

hardy trunking yuccas in the Okanagan, and elsewhere, someday

Although we don't see them yet (large trunking specimens anyway), I don't think there's much doubt that more exotic trunking yuccas (brevifolia, elata, rostrata, fax., etc.) are hardy to the Okanagan region of BC (possibly with minimal protection some winters). I say this based on the evidence aroun...

Hi All, Just received 15 seeds each of yucca brevifolia, elata and rigida. I have no clue how to go about transforming these seeds into lovely little yuccas. I've never grown anything from seed, in fact. Does it matter how the seed lays in the soil, how deep, how much moisture, how hot etc? I notice...
