Looks like female inflorescence. You need male pollen for successful pollination. Sometimes, but very rare, C. humilis develop hermaphroditic flowers. My C. humilis v. cerifera also looks like female. http://i400.photobucket.com/albums/pp84/m_bara/Palms%20and%20other%20exotics/P6070025.jpg http://i4...

So -24C is the absolute minimum where death occurs. You likely don't have the duration of cold of other areas. There's hope for us with some winter warming, but maybe not yet. Barb Hi Barb, duration of cold subzero temperatures last winter prolonged for 15 days or cca 360 hours. There is data for l...

Mostly unprotected. Palms planted in good micro climate gardens in urban area didn't need protection because of urban heat effect. We have sometimes, every 20-30 years very bad winters with minimum down to -24 Celsius (-11,2F), and every 5-10 years to -18-20 Celsius (0F to -4F). Oldest T. fortunei w...

Jim, you have a wonderful cactus garden. Did you consider to get some Lavender variety for your garden? Some varieties are hardy for zone 5. They give a Mediterranean touch.

Garden is outside of the city at our weekend house, about 30 km east. I don't have an automatic whet...
