You're lucky enough to have some protection with the house there... If I did what you have I would have to have lines tied to stakes in the ground to keep things upright! Mine are open to the west, right where the wind comes through, I'm hoping with the heavy plastic and shrink wrap that those will ...

you must not have wind like I do... I'd have to tie everything down with stakes if I did 2 x 2 frames... Mine will be wrapped with heavy plastic and then I think I'll shrink wrap them. I'm still thinking about how to hang the lights... going to have to put some cross pieces from door to do in there ...

Needle palm pricing
So since the season is winding down I am starting to plan what I want to do next spring in the yard and looking at needle palms. If you've seen my deck and boardwalk you can see I have plenty of space to put some new palms. I'm thinking of along the boardwalk or out by the retaining wall by the pond...

My enclosure is quite large cubic foot-wise. It houses a 7+ foot trachy, a 5.5+ footer, and a large trunked yucca of over 5 feet. All I use is a string of C7s and a string of C9s (clear) and a CFL fixture connected to a Thermocube. No extra mulch inside the enclosure. No lights touching any part of...

I grabbed one extra when they were on sale at menards a while back just in case... but boy I don't I don't have to rip into the huts in the middle of the winter. Sad note: Just looked at my fronds and saw when I pulled them up to tie them, one snapped at the base.... dangit it! Here's to good protec...

Just got my Target C9's tonight. $7.99 per strand, mine had about 10 boxes of clear and 10 of multicolored and were just starting to put out the Christmas stuff. Side note: I don't think we hit freezing last night but when I woke up this morning the thermocube had turned on my lights. Good to know t...

I think with the size of your enclosures a space heater might work better than a bunch of lights but next year you could make a smaller enclosure and only need one strand of lights. My Washy enclosures were 4' tall and had 20 C-9 lights in each, this kept the 2 Washys above 35F all last winter on a ...

It's almost cheaper to just buy a $15 space heater.... it actually would have been cheaper for me to acually do that. I just saw a $12 heater from ace hardware that seemed pretty nice.... My only question would be about how much electricity a heater pulls vs a string of lights. Anyone have thoughts ...

Erik's right, wheelman...those light strings sure are cheap. And like I said, BC government has a new law in place where it's now illegal to sell/buy incandescent bulbs/strings , although a few replacement bulbs can still be found on the back of a shelf here and there. How nice, huh? Stooooopid mor...

I paid about double the target price for my first strings.... plus those came with a warning about handing the wires and that there's lead on them! Nice chinese made stuff.... I'm going to stop at target after work and see if I can pick up a few strings. At that price it's worth stocking up, heck I ...

Can anyone tell me if these types give off heat?
I don't see them listed as LED, but they say ceramic.... not like what I have currently.

If anyone has a lead on a better price, please post a link.

Not surprised--Wife is from around there. So, can your roofs hold the weight? They look flat. The roofs are 3/4 inch pressboard(?), the same garbage that sauder funiture uses to make their products with. It's an old entertainment center I got from the girlfriend. Plus I'm outside snowmobiling enoug...

Got my palm hut frames up!
Decided today was a good day to get my frames erected for my two windmill palms. Let's see if I can get a picture to post. Basically they're two heavy interior doors each tied together with two by fours. I plan on wrapping with plastic, putting two sets of c9's in one and one set in another with sma...

How does this sound for winter protection?
I have two 6 foot tall overall windmills that I will be overwintering. I'm going to lay out my plan of attack and hopefully you all can tell me if I'm on the right track. 1. I have four solid core wood doors that I plan to use two each for each palm to give some structural integrity to the palm hut....

The turf farm allows snowmobiling during winter? Barb I know the owner and actually as long it's frozen over well, the grass doesn't get hurt... and I run a track that's studded and from time to time it paddles down to bare ground. Some thatch gets tossed up, but once it thaws you can't eve...

I'm planning on some sort of wood frame, with styrofoam walls and some sort of plastic wrap. The trees are buffered on the west side but Im in a total wind tunnel. I'm about to order my thermocubes and c9 light strands as well. I researched this big time before ordering the palms, I'm well aware of ...

Thanks, I just put them in 4/5 weeks ago, so they're still getting rooted. I haven't noted any stress from replanting so that's good. There is electric out there, right now just a GFI. I'm still kicking around how I'll go about winter protection. So long as I don't kill them this year, I'm on the lo...

Best pricing on Windmills of decent size
I know this is a little extreme planning, but as long as I can over winter my two practice trachy's with out killing them this winter I am planning on buying 4-6 more of them but would like to get them with 5-6 foot trunks.... Someone on another forum mentioned someone who had good prices but I can'...
