Good choice. They (the roots) will figure it out, over a few years. Don't worry.

How big is it? Any palmate leaves yet?

I'm no expert.

Root bound is not a big problem. But, if it was me, I'd get some scissors or shears and cut away the plastic pot as best I could.

I might buy and plant an Ensete today. Not long-term here, but with the El Nino going on, it might even over-winter here. Get two summers out of one.

I grow them from seeds. If you find a big one for sale, get it, but it won't be cheap.

Yes, sensitive roots. But, don't fret over the ones that broke. They will grow back, but slowly. I love these, but they are slow.

May precipitation

I know a lot of snow has fallen in recent days in the Dakotas, Wyoming, etc. Here in Oklahoma, rain! Lots of it. This is what we've had in the past week: http://ticker.mesonet.org/archive/20150511/7day-rainfall.png Needless to say I'm not having to water my potted palms, but it was annoying that my ...

A couple waggies, dug up and moved from Oklahoma in 2013. They came through last winter's record cold just fine, of course.

So, how cold do you think it got?

I have found them to be very hardy, but spear pull has been a challenge.

End of "winter" report

Back here. Wow, what difference a year makes. This winter? Warm, not even a frost. All winter! Contrast that with a record low for the day in early December, 2013. All palms are looking great and growing. Even the super tender shaving brush palm is pushing a spear. Chameadorea out

I posed my Chameadorea radicalis by the tailpipe of my '01 VW diesel to fertilize with CO2 this afternoon. W had a mischievous grin as she did the "rolling coal" thing, next to our big diesel truck. <iframe src="https://www.flickr.com/photos/drterdal/16758988011/player/" width=&q...

Palm garden in Hawai'i with 400 species

The PBS newshour last night had a delightful story about an aging poet who has tended a palm garden for decades. Worth a watch:

Manzanita warm and VERY wet. Hasn't even gotten down to freezing once there all winter.
