Its been cold up here but nothing record breaking. Its actually been much warmer than the previous years. At last you get a good amount of snow tim. Everything should be fine. I just took a look at Niagra falls temps. Theyre looking at -25C tonight. Record daily low is -12C. Bloody cold again aroun...

Cherry trees are in full bloom in Vancouver BC; incredible cold trough in the East. Barb I'm tired of hearing in the news: " Record breaking temps! Never seen in 100 yrs!" Seems like we've heard this now in the last 2 years and to think last summer on ONE day, was above 30C, when we norma...

Hope you're still warm out there, here in T.O. we've got the coldest absolute temps we've had for years and years forecast for tonight. It's supposed to hit -23C (-9F) tonight, then -24C (-11F) on Friday night. I think I'll stay home! The extreme minimum (since Jan 1. 2001) is -23.3 °C, which occur...

I looked inside my green house in everything is very moldy :( That's too bad, sorry. Good job building it, however, it's probably air-tight. I'd give a shot of copper fung. on a milder day with some fresh air. You should be fine anyways, there's mold spoors around all the time. Just needs a little ...

Thanks Barb, the snow will melt soon enough, and I'm sure you'll be happy. I'm only asking because I might plant mine in a garbage can like you did... once it grows lol
But I'll take your advice and keep it in a pot for a few years..

NP, A picture of the protection would be great to see on a palm that big. There is a good sized CIDP in one of Vancouver's eastern suburbs that I drive past occasionally. It has a decent sized box built around it from Coreplast. Thing must be 15' tall, but the one in your picture looks even bigger....

For some of these Yuccas, do you need to have the seed go through a slight freeze cycle before germination plantings? Many seeds still left on the Y. In the Spring, I apply a few shots of warm water to each tree with Epsom salts, as the salts also prevent freezing. No need to plug the cable in at that point, just for extreme low temps.

My take is that fungicides are more for the plant when it emerges from dormancy in the Spring. I apply a copper form in the fall before boxing up, that way I know its there for the Spring. Not too much though, as some fungicides can be too harmful or lethal for a younger palm if there's no ventilati...
