Hi Andy great Yuccas! Your Y. decipiens is a beauty. I've seen 'real' specimens in Arizona and I could not tell the difference from Y. filifera. There are a couple different forms of Y. filifera, some less hardy than others. I moisture protected a filifera back in the winter of 2002 and it saw +6F i...

I recall my Y. elatas getting burn when young......some even dying. I 'weeded' out the weak ones. My last remaining Y. elata has over 3' of trunk and leaf tips to 7 feet. I don't think it has any burn after this winter and our low was -6.5F. Y. elata is the hardiest SW trunker in my area. here's an ...

Barb......your Wollemi is getting large now! Hopefully you'll get yours to grow a few cones. How cool would that be! Mine is getting smaller with age.......I had to trunk cut off all the cold damage and now it's in my office. <img src=http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c309/timmaz6/2013%20Plants...

it sounds like a good plan Paul. I did the same thing when I moved from Rhode Island to Massachusetts. I removed the grass turf and it's roots. Purchased a 50/50 mix of sand/peastone and placed it on the bare soil. I then covered the 50/50 mix with 100% peastone so rain will not erode the sand. It's...

welcome to the board! It appears the snow loads bent the Yuccas over............too far over in my opinion to prop them up again. I think new off shoots will grow where the trunk is bent and around the base if you stake it up again. If you really want to save it, prop it up with a stake and see what...

Hi Paul the lights are on the same circuit as my fish pond heater........I had that plugged in for 4 to 5 weeks at least. A fellow up in Hopkinton, MA (was zone 5b, now 6a) lost a R. rex last fall.....likely from summer heat stress....it was 5 feet tall. It appears summer heat is more of an issue in...
