Palms and now bananas! yard update with some quick photos.
I will say it pays to cozy up to your local tech center's greenhouse guy. After buying three dwarf Brazilian bananas earlier this spring, I had two of them start to look really haggard for whatever reason. I was by there today and managed to catch him there and asked if I could get a few to replace ...

That's not a bad idea.... I've only been a little preoccupied since getting back from the honeymoon to think much about it. I would have been more apt to throw it out there if it wasn't doing anything....sashaeffer wrote:Can't it/they be sprayed with insecticide before bringing them in? that is what I do.

The yard looks great.......are the Trachy's growing again? The one on the left has three spears coming up and seems to be really moving. The smaller one on the right has one spear that I think is newer and not as fast moving. I did mark a couple leaves that still had to come out more and I've notic...

Finally getting our heads above water after getting back from our honeymoon and did some landscaping last weekend. Consisted of a canna garden at the waterline retaining wall and got 4 yards of rock to cover underneath the deck and the run along the boardwalk. Still need to dig out the other side an...

I'm in hawaii - what palm is this?
I'm here in hawaii on my honeymoon and we went on a road trip today, and we came across some specimens we didn't know. Can anyone tell me what type of palm this is? Also, is the yellow thing in the first pic a huge seed? I was tempted to rip the thing off but didn't, but it'd be nice to know for fut...

I really want a sabel but I can live with another trachy, now it's just a matter of how big my folks and fit in the bed of the truck. I was just hoping to hit up someone who could tell me they were doing well with a sabel palmetto. I have a Mexican Fan Palm in a large pot in my house right now, what...

Quick question, need fast answers
Hi all, my folks are down in galveston on a service project this month and I asked if they'd take me back a palm in their truck. Outside of a windmill palm, what would be the next best one for me to get that I can overwinter here in Michigan? Does anyone think I can do a sable palmetto???? I really ...

The fiance has put me on notice that if I can spend money on a palm right now then I can spend more on the wedding.....

Broke down and took the frames down today. Boy it didn't take them long to spread out. I just got a new neighbor next door and he said he couldn't believe they were palm trees.... I think he thinks he moved next to the most interesting guy in the world. LOL http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb418/...

Here's some nice mold photos of what got on my cardboard insulation. I'm curious if those who use styrofoam get anything like that from moisture inside their boxes? I burned much of this crap tonight to just get it out of my garage, I don't need spores marking the rounds down there. http://i1204.pho...

Well I opened everything up today since I saw the ten day forecast saying we weren't going to go below freezing. I am keeping up three sides of the walls just in case we get a cold spell but in a few weeks I'll pull everything down. A few notes. I had a lot of mold inside when I opened it up. The ho...

Actually it'll be at the Frederick Meijer Gardens, they have a huge conservatory (greenhouse) that has close to 15 different palms in it. I'm hoping we can get some tropical photos done there after it closes to the public at 5pm. On a side note, I managed to score six more solid core doors out of du...

Have you enjoyed watching your remote thermometer as the lights kick in on cold nights? It's the last thing I do at night, and the first thing in the morning...check the temps. Then I can relax. And hope there's no power outage. Nothing beats a plywood structure in a windy area. :salute: Your palms...

Totally fresh sabel palmetto seeds! Now what do I do?
Gotta say I got an unexpected surprise today... I was at Frederick Meijer Gardens with my fiance for our tasting and afterwards we went into the conservatory (it's a huge greenhouse full of tropical foliage). Among the multiple palms there was a large sabel palmetto with seeds literally hanging over...

Name prices Mike! :-) Just so I understand correctly, you're talking about drop shipping direct from the farm in the USA, and avoiding taking it into canada at all? correct? I was thinking in terms of if you could just act as a broker and have them shipped direct to me from whatever farm you use. I have a contact over near detroit who I've talked to that sounds like a hobbiest who says he can get me a great deal on some tall windmills, however, without him being an offi...

For those of you near a Target store, I scored some 25 foot heavy duty cords that have a plug spaced every 8 feet. Got them for $6.00 (70% off). You can't even buy a regular extension cord for $20 bucks these days much less one that has as much insulation on as the ones I got. I'm sure it varies by ...
