Wheather your agave is americana or salimaina I can't tell from the photo, but either way it will not hardy beyond 20 degrees F. Good luck with your garden. Don't give up because something dies. I can't name how many plants I have killed before I actually suceeded.

Paul, I am suprised you got parryi through winter if you failed with havardiana. I have around 10 havardiana in the ground because it and ovatifolia are the 2 agaves that do not require protection here.

Very nice rock garden, especially for your winter temps. I too find agaves more xeric than cacti and you would have to protect it. Which agaves have you tried?

I had a couple needle palms do that this year. It was their first year in the ground so I covered them. Later after I uncovered them they declined. I assume it is sunburn because their spears are still solid.

It was purchased from lowes in the same pot pictured above, as a trichocereus grandiflorus. It was in the ground for 3 winters before breaking off. Seems a bit hardy for your average house plant sold at Lowes, right?

I am seeing alot of green there so I dont think they were hurt too bad. I would continue to keep them dry just in cause there is some spear damage. I see a lot snow still hanging around. Looks like you all still suffering from winter. Hope they come back fast this spring.

Jim, you can see the red blooms off the other cactus. Showing it is definitely a different sp.

I have 2 trichocereus terscheckii, been in pots for 2 yrs with no growth. Guess this yr will be as good as any to plant em.

Definitely parryi then. They sell the what I believe to be parryi v couesii. Just dug mine up because they refuse to grow. Will have to fine a better place for them. But watch those spines because parryi ssp neomexicana has thin leaves too while young.

Hate to see your yucca die. They are suppose to be really hardy, but I have never tried one of those. You parryi could be flagstaff form, hard to id while they are small. Where did it come from? I would never let your barrel cacti or agave utahensis get moisture in the winter time.

best way to re root fallen tricho?

Too much lean and rain must have forced my tricho to the breaking point. Now how is the best method to re root? A clean cut with rooting hormone and replant or pot? Should I remove the pups and plant them vertically? <a href="http://s1209.photobucket.com/user/chadec7a/media/Mobile%20Uploads/201...
