Thanks Jim, we've been really dry this summer. Not even our normal afternoon showers. But where I work in Winston-Salem we have had much more precip. Must be due to higher heat effect from the city.

Garden in Sept.

Not sure how long summer will last, but I am enjoying every minute. Sure don't want to start thinking about snow and ice. <a href="http://s1209.photobucket.com/user/chadec7a/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150911_151625.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1209.photobucket.c...

I had to take a second look. When my agave desmettiana bolted the meristem actually drew in before the inflo emerged.

Jim, I brought a new trachy home this week. Since it was b&b my plan was to keep it in a 30 gallon pot over winter, cause I feel its too late to plant. Do you agree?

Thanks guys, Jim, was checking out several agave at PDN last week that they had planted in beds other than their rock gardens, couldn't help but notice how much mulch was packed around them. Amazing too to see cacti and agave growing in shaded areas. Igor, I cannot show everything in a single post. ...

New stuff and some updates

Planted out some opuntia, agave havardiana and tricho at the bed by the road. Everything here must be xeric cause the hose doesn't reach. <a href="http://s1209.photobucket.com/user/chadec7a/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20150707_103204.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i12...

Nice idea Tim, specially if the tube is adjustable. Since they are planted under the soffet and do not get wet they should be hardened off going into winter. Our cold temps usually start in Jan - Feb. However, the size these things grow it will not get covered for long.

Jim, there is only enough mulch to cover the peagravel. And if the wind blows I have to go and put it back. So I am hoping it will not cause any problems. One great thing about this side of the house is snow and rain never blows up against it.

You will need to provide excellent drainage too with the top few inches of pure gravel. I would recommend a raised area so winter rains stay off the roots. And dig down deep and amend the soil with plenty of pea gravel.
