Barb and Jim, The trachy with fronds is growing fine. We have been at 80 F the last few days and everything is coming alive. Some trachies are on their second frond. The sabal spear is still tight, so I treat it and watch. I did cut both trachies with spear pull Sunday. The largest one was like curd...

sick palms

Had two trachies from last winter never fully recover. So, this year I covered them completely to help best I could. Still provided no heat or light source. Once uncovered I realized that both have probably seen their end. <a href="http://s1209.photobucket.com/user/chadec7a/media/Mobile%20Uploa...

Messing with cuttings will not hurt em. Its more important to get the soil right so that you dont have to bare root em when you plant em. I dont use a true gritty mix either just make sure once the soil is completely dry and you water, that the water goes straight through. Peaty soil will resist wat...

I put mine in about 5" below soil line to root.

Bato, I would be careful with your soil. It looks peaty, I recommend adding perlite or DG to increase the drainage.

Such a shame Jim. I just got home from the beach and found the snow and wind has bend one of my needles over. Since it was mummy wrapped I hope the roots are not damaged. The palm will require support to stand upright this spring.

Was the needle palms protected, because you can barely tell a palm was even there? I really hate that you lost these. I know how slow these things grow.

Ohh Barb, you know how I love me sum PDN. I actually have a standing order I will be picking up in 2 weeks :D
