Most of the Aloe's are from Africa... From bloody tropical Africa. They would grow in the Italy or the French Mediterranean coast but they won't survive when the cold spells more than 2 or 3 days. They are too fleshy...

Jim, I had a chance driving 25 km all the way from my place (1000 m above sea level) down to the airport area (700 m above sea level) today. Roses are ok (blooming like crasy) as well as the Castor bean plants. Awaiting for the next season with my Wagner, Chamerops, Basijoo, Gunnera and other stuff ...

My sister is growing Cannas in North Yourk, Toronto. I've planted them 6 years ago very close to the house wall. They are still alive. By the way never any protection stuff have been using at all.

Thanks the Canadianplant! Unfortunately I've never been in NWOntario. I had a chance visiting only a few places above Toronto - Algonquin Park and Muskoka. I will defenetely post pictures from my garden in the nearest future, as soon as winter comes. My garden looks quite different than any Canadian...

I would say it's average date of the first snow. Last year it's happened two weeks earlier. Frost free season is about 185 days in Almaty.

Yep... Almaty is located on the various altitudes . My place is about 1000 m above the sea level and there is a good blancket of snow already. An airport where a weather station is located has a lower altitude.and the snow is melting there. Tomoroow morning I expect higher temperature at my place op...

Tim, thanks for greetings. I'd love to try some truncked species. Perchaps I would order quite mature plants from the Netherlands. This country is only the source the Kazakh suppliers import the plants from. I hate waiting for several years sowing the seeds. I might be wrong please advice.

Actually Kazakhstan is a very Asian country! 7 hours flying westward to the Netherland (Atlantic region, ) 6 hours to the Pacific region (Seuol, Korea) and 7 hours to Bangkok... We are quite distant either form the oceans or the civilisation.

I believe this Dutch company selling the palms all over Europe has it's nurseries in south of China, Thailand and Malasia. I won't compete with them! Some day I visit Toronto another day for the palms shoping. But I sware it's not very cheap one too.

Your prices is a joke. I payed 175 USD for one foot stem Wagnerianus in the only one Almaty's garden centre selling some palms. Oh, boy, I wished I buy the stuff in the Northern America!
