just a little bit more and I'll get rid of these. Trachy (big box in front) will come out as soon as possible, but washy (skinny box in the back) will stay in till May but I'll take out the tarp so I can open it up in warm days. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_...

It's a shame that the weather sticker doesn't show the temperature at the time when the post was made instead of being update all the time. Would be nice to go back and review the posts and see what was the temperature. Anyway, tonight -25C (-13F) feels like -35C(-31F), but I send everyone in this f...

considering what happen last year with my washy, I will open that box probably at the beginning of May (Trachys can come out at the beginning of April). 6 Months in a cage, that's not fun.

when is that January meltdown? I got enough of this: http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/Mobile/weather1_zps260b4ddb.jpg The US is set for its coldest month this century after weeks of sub-freezing temperatures. The Daily Mail reported: America is set for the coldest month of the centu...

I wrapped all my boxes in tarp, so too much hassle to open them. I'll see the damage in the spring :-( What worries me is that all my wireless thermometers now show the same temperature. They are the same manufacturer and I assume they now read the same sensor. When I started I'm sure they were pair...

Frost quake
My wife woke up in the middle of the night. This is what she heard: "Awaken by a loud boom — thought a family member was in trouble," said a tweet by @JanineBaijnath. Others reported hearing similar noises overnight as Toronto and much of the eastern half of the country were under an extre...

http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/Mobile/IMG_20131120_080506_zps2d3151c4.jpg you can not see the details from my pictures, maybe this one. An 8x4 sheet is about $18 at HD and the insulation $22. for a 2'x2'x8' box that would be around $80 for walls. Some extra for the frame, glue, s...

I created first a 2'x2' base from recycled 2x4 (from the scrap bin from hd) http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/Mobile/IMG_20131119_093820_zps3c63092c.jpg This base is fixed in the ground with 4 2ft long steel bars. Then the walls I created them from 2x2 with corrugated plastic outside...

There are some articles on the web that claim that cfl bulbs are not made to be turned on and off very often. Also that they don't work very well in the cold. Optimal use for a fluorescent light is to be left on all the time at temperatures between 50 and 80 degrees (F). You can still experience sav...

palm protection in markham
I realized that the palm protection is not only important to do it's job, but also to be light enough so you don't kill yourself in the summer. My first hut was this: http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/2013/Garden/20130406_7245_zps4cda10ee.jpg Made from recycled material. It lasted 3 ...

this winter I took 2 palms inside my office (close to a window but no sun from December to March). A bottle palm and a spindle palm. From what I read, I understood that I have to keep them wet. The spindle palm is outside now and it grew a lot, the bottle palm died rotten. Which way it is with adoni...
