just a little bit more and I'll get rid of these. Trachy (big box in front) will come out as soon as possible, but washy (skinny box in the back) will stay in till May but I'll take out the tarp so I can open it up in warm days. http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_...

It's a shame that the weather sticker doesn't show the temperature at the time when the post was made instead of being update all the time. Would be nice to go back and review the posts and see what was the temperature. Anyway, tonight -25C (-13F) feels like -35C(-31F), but I send everyone in this f...

Thank you Barb.

I started to play with Al's gritty mix, but it was too heavy to move the pots around. (I still have a few lemon trees in it)

So I replaced the granite with perlite. I have a few indoor palms in it and they are all doing great: enough humidity but no stagnant water.

a little concerned about this as I wrapped the boxes in tarp, but there's no way I can even look inside with the cold and snow that's still outside. I can see the lights are still turning on and off and the temperature is around 5C.

considering what happen last year with my washy, I will open that box probably at the beginning of May (Trachys can come out at the beginning of April). 6 Months in a cage, that's not fun.

There are some articles on the web that claim that cfl bulbs are not made to be turned on and off very often. Also that they don't work very well in the cold. Optimal use for a fluorescent light is to be left on all the time at temperatures between 50 and 80 degrees (F). You can still experience sav...

I realized that the palm protection is not only important to do it's job, but also to be light enough so you don't kill yourself in the summer. My first hut was this: http://i958.photobucket.com/albums/ae68/bananieru/2013/Garden/20130406_7245_zps4cda10ee.jpg Made from recycled material. It lasted 3 ...
