looks like it's a boy :-).

The rostrata was a beauty and I have only myself to blame for killing it. Had no problems protected from snow with no heat added. As soon as the snow and the rain touched her, this is what happen.

Yucca rostrata is dying. Crown rot I think it's called, it's similar with spare pull, the leaves are rotten. Is it anything that I can do? It looked so good when I opened it up after winter. It got one snow on it though, and I did'n blow it off.

Vertical veggie garden

No more room for veggies so I had to go up. Not sure if the pond will supply enough nutrients, but it can be converted easy from aquaponics to hydroponics.

Washingtonia filifera...The petioles (leaf stems) of mature palms are armed along the margins with curved thorns; those of young palms are largely unarmed.

If the trunk is soft, search in this forum for cutting the trunk. Once you cut it you have to get rid of all the black stuff. I saved one this way. (it's true that it was still green, just the center spear pulled)

Mine is very close in size with yours, second winter in the ground. It's also planted very close to a fence. At least I know that's easier to get a new one than move the existing one. Once it outgrows the 8' box, yes, it's a candidate for the wrapping method. So Beny, two more years to fine tune the...

I always have to remind myself that in Los Angeles grow Mexican fan palms, not California fan palms, and that Washingtonia robusta is not as robust as Washingtonia filifera
:dontknow:

Based on the thorns yes, it looks like yours is a Mexican fan palm.

How deep was actually 1/2 way to china?

How do you protect the roots with this method? can we have a picture? I thought that even a 2x2 is a little too small for the roots. I remember wxman was concerned few years ago that the palms are not doing that good when the root system goes outside the box.

I was impressed with my little wagnerianus: all green. I'll protect it from rain while it's still below freezing during the night (one or two more weeks) as last year I had to cut it's trunk because of spear pool.

The weather is colder than announced (sounds familiar?) but I was still able to open some boxes. First I brought out of the garage the agave. It's been there since fall with absolutely no water. Usually the temperature doesn't go below freezing, but this year it did at least a few times: http://i958...
