Andy,

Not all Yuucas will have as much liquid at the end of the pistol. Sometimes there's just a little inside the pistol and some have none. You'll still get seed pods if you pollenate many flowers👍

Did you get any seed pods?

Are you finding the F2 filata's Hardy? How about the Y. thomp x big mama?

I'm curious how those Hardy Engelmaniis will fair when larger. It's nice to see them alive!

Great garden. Keep the updates coming

PS how are the Rhodos's?

I'm not sure, can you see the 'liquid' at the end of the pistol? These are the flowers ready to be pollenated.

It's not a 'true' filamentosa but the habit, leaves and flowers are pointing that way. Seed could have been produced on a Y glauca but pollenated by a Y filamentosa; therefore, we are seeing mostly filamentosa genes.

It's a form of Y filamentosa. What type of seed were you told it was?

Try to pollenate the flowers so seed pods will develop. 8)

Hi Aaron Every pistol is different between species. I find glauca, stricta and Arkansana strange since there is no hole at the end of the pistol and you need to open the 'flaps' to get the pollen in. East coast yuccas are easy Some nights seem to produce better pollen than other nights. Not sure why...

Hi Igor Most Yuccas can self pollenate. That means seed pods can form on a yucca with no other Yuccas You can pollenate with any other Yucca. The pollen donor 'generally' passes the leaf traits. Some crosses are more prominent than others. Example: the pollen from filamentosa was used to pollenate c...

It's a Y filata? Fila x elata. Nice :)

Hi Igor, did you attempt to pollinate the flowers? I didn't see any seed pods. I usually pollinate at sunset or sunrise. Pollen forms best at these times (also during night but it's dark!). Gently scrap pollen off the anthers. Store pollen on your hand (see photo). Place pollen in the pistol 'tube'....

Yucca elata getting beat up but is 100% fine. Look close, the Y. elata is to the right of the 'tube' in the center of the photo. The elata top of leaves is approaching 8' tall now. Big Mama seedlings should be hardy to at least -20C.......likely even hardier to -25C. Excess winter moisture is the biggest problem.

Nice Yuccas! Rostratas are surprisingly hardy. I was surprised they survived last winter 'from hell'. My yard hit -6.5F (-21.4C).....and we get tons of winter precipitation which is a Yucca killer. This winter I babied my 2 Y. rostratas in 'tubes'. They are the two tubes in the center of the photo. ...

nice job with the seeds. the seeds with the exposed roots are not growing into the soil. The root continues to grow but the root tip is not growing into the soil. Bury the root into the soil now and it should be fine.
