They grow outside in California. The ones that I have survived down to 23F and 25F but were damaged. High 20's does not seem to bother them if it is for a brief period. I would caution with planting them in normal soil as their roots are prone to rotting if kept too moist. They also will only bloom ...

Interesting pictures. I'm curious if you have visited these in person before or if you are just typing in random addresses searching for plants?

I did not even recognize the turnks on the Champerops at first in the last picture. It apears to have a few basal suckers sprouting at least.

That's a lot of pots and seedlings. I have had Parajubaea seeds where the first one to germinate was after 15 months. These were even slower than Jubaea seeds which take 9-12 months. Some other seeds like Howea belmoreana took forever too but they were old seeds.

Some Palms at UC Davis

Yesterday was a nice day here and I was able to take some pictures of some palms on the UC Davis Campus at ~38degrees Northern Latitude in the Central Valley of CA. I will post the name of the palm that I think it is but am probably a bit off on a couple of them. I'll Start of with one of my favorit...

The Sabals are looking good. It must be a decent area for them if they are reproducing. The other day I saw a P. canariensis in an area closed off for ecological study. The Washies on the other hand don't look so good. I wonder if they thought they might live?

Those are some nice big healthy looking plants you have there. Caster Beans are quite tough and can survive on very little water although they are sparsely foliated and don't look that good. They are weedy here and survive on 10-20 inches of rainfall just fine.

The tall pots have been working out well for my seedling cycads and palms. They require less frequent irrigation for young plants as well as taking up much less space. I got some of the crates designed for their pots so that the seedlings are easy to store and don't tip over.

Anybody ever give citrus an Epsom Salts "tonic"? (making soil more acidic?) Epsom Salts are a source of Magnesium and can be used correct or prevent a deficiency. Be carful as too much of a good thing can block the uptake of other nutrients. I believe too much Mg can block the uptake of Ca?

It appears that the older leaves are yellowing which would be normal. Citrus do likes soil that drains but like quite a bit of fertilzer with plenty of Nitrogen and all the trace including Magnesium. I have read that a 5-1-3 NPK is ideal for citrus. A palm fertilizer would probabbly work well.
