Don't feel bad. I took my first major casualties this Winter. Lost a Med and two Saw Palmettos. Looked like they just dried out. My perfect record ends.

I also lost a Meyer Lemon I was overwintering in the basement.

I live near you and presently have 6 Needle Palms growing. Never gave them any protection beyond a good layer of mulch in the Winter. They are pretty tough.

My only concern with yours would be its NE siting. Mine are all S to SW.

Well in the end I was wrong.

The Citrumelos all took damage, but are already in full recovery mode. The Thomasville defoliated after holding up for most of the winter. The trunk and branches are still green though.

Yea that's another thing Barb. Al's gritty mix can work wonders. I mostly use the 5:1:1 mix, but the point is to use a porous, good draining mix.

I always get my Foliage Pro off of eBay. Don't know what border ramifications there are.

I love Acubas and they grow pretty well down here. Very exotic and they don't miss a beat during the winter. Their only enemy is lots of direct sunshine. I move one to a shadier spot as it was getting torched.
