New Butia at my home..

There s few pics of my Butia i planted last week, 12 feets high and at least 600-700 lbs :shock: ...thats a big one ill try to protect next winter. New palms plantation around Montreal !

There s a few Trachycarpus, Butia, Washingtonia, Queen palm and Sabal minor i planted in some customers and at the new camping Club Havana resort in Maricourt at 1.5 hours east of Montréal. I will protect all those palms for the winter except the queen palm, they will bring them Inside for winter ! ...

I use an Ayrfoil ( insulation roll used for heatwater reservoir), arbotez and tarp. Easyheat cable for warming the palm. It has is own thermostat set at +3c. One 12 foot on the ground and another one around the trunck and foliage. 2 feets of cable per one feet of palm tall, exemple : Trachycarpus 8 ...

Palms free finally

There s few palms without their protection. They re all looks good :D ....but on one Trachycarpus who is been on ground since 2011, i found a mouse nidification Under the wrapping and the mouse ate almost all the leaves :shock: ...first time i see that. On the first pic ! But the palm will survive.....

Will post more soon, they re still protected. We received at least 15 cm of snow this more, but it s melting now. All the snow were gone since almost 2 weeks and temp. above avg. since mid-march. But we had cold snap last sunday trough today with temp. 10c below average :cry: ...Warmup is on our way...

Make some holes for ventilation. It will help for preventing condensation. Im doing that with the mummywrap and it work well. And don't worry, windmill can take at least 5F. So even with 2 small holes ( 1 square-inchs) on 2 opposite side of your barrels, the temp. will never go down under the critic...

Thx Andym, yes, there s a few people who grow palms here, but me and coconutmike are the only one who sale and offer the winterizing service in Quebec. Many people protect themselve their palms after i sold them the winter protection kit. For me, i count at least 40-50 palms around Montreal i plante...

Wow, still having 1 Trachycarpus without protection :D ...never seen that before. We still are over 10-20 F above average temp. here near Montreal. The forecaster said the temp. will reach 16c or 60 F on Thursday Christmas eve :shock: . The normal temp in the day is -3c or near 24F.

Same thing here :D ....still above average 5-10 c , i still have 1 Trachy at my home without any protection. Its a record for here near Mtl. No snow and ice yet. We have good chance to have a green Christmas :) . Its not happening often here. Thats my kind of weather for winter, thks El Nino :lol: Ben

Hi, im near Montreal and i just started to protect the palms, but for you, i think you can wait 1-2 more weeks. The Trachy can take 5-10 F with no problems. I left one 8 foots tall at -16c or near 3F without protection 2 years ago and it had nothing :D ...

This year, i will try to wrap queen palm. But we ve had a low of -6c 2 weeks ago , so it now have few burns tips on the leaves.

Hi, i posted a few post regarding wrapping in the last 2 years. It works well but this year i will put the arbotex between the heat tape and palm cause it burned few leaves last winter. In a normal winter,i don t have this problem. But last winter was horrible :)...You can see more info on my Youtub...
