Bill,
Those clumps started as two 2 gallon needle palms each. They do great here. There is an old plant here in town that has trunked.

I vote for Costa Rica!
Its a beautiful country, dry forest, tropical jungles, cool cloud forest, beaches on both sides and active volcanoes in the middle. About the size of Louisiana. The people there still like the U.S. Palms everywhere you look. Coud forest. http://s3.postimage.org/IWX_0.jpg Moss covered tree http://s3....

Rocky, Nice photos, I grew up not far from you (Aubrey). Wish I knew palms would have grown there. There were plenty of yuccas and cacti. I remember a wall of very large agaves that grew in a yard in Denton, just off of Hwy 380. A few years ago I visited a palm dealer in downtown Dallas. Do you know...

Pachy flower
I like Pachypodiums. Something about being exotic, beautiful and painful, all at the same time. I kept a Pachy for a friend while he moved across country. It bloomed before he could get back and pick it up. Here are a couple of pics. http://s1.postimage.org/YuoUr.jpg http://s1.postimage.org/YuroA.jp...

As far as Adeniums go, I haven't been very successful with them. But I have found a paper on growing them fast, Adenium Culture: Producing Large Specimens Quickly by Mark Dimmitt. Turns out I should have treated them like tropicals in the spring and summer, not like cactus. I plan to get a new young...

The plant right behind is a Fockea edulis. Its a great caudiciform too. Right now I have 10 species of palms and cycads outside, a total of 25 plants. Plus several cacti, yuccas and agaves to boot.

Brugmansia
Yes, we have left them in the ground, cut the stalks, cover the base with leaves and pot the cuttings. One year we produced 50 or more plants from them. There is a large pecan tree on the east side of our front yard. Its been shading more and more of my beds. Less sun, less growth, this year we didn...

Winter care
Barb, I try to baby the palms as little as possible. My first plantings were near the house, facing south. We had success growing bananas and Brugmansia in those spots, so when i got interested in palms , it just made sense. Now, as I'm spreading out into the yard, I just pick a spot and hope for th...

Its been 2-3 years since I spoke with Don, but I think he is still around. Remind me after the first of the year and I will try to get in touch with him. Last time I talked with him he was reducing his palms and working on cold hardy citrus. Check out citsumaquat.com.

I have bought plants wherever I can find them. In the spring, I walk thru HD and Lo's every week or so. I keep an eye on ebay and other web sites. I got my first from Don the Palm man, here in OKC. He has the amazing gardens website. I bought all my Sabals and Rhapidophyllum from him. He is also kno...

Yes, I have 2 outside now and another indoors. I'm just waiting to see how the others do this winter. They have been out for a couple of summers. This is their second winter. They are supposed to be more cold hardy than Cycas revoluta and I have had revoluta in the ground for 10 yrs.

Hello from Edmond Oklahoma ( Northside of OKC).
Hi, I live in zone 7a. I've been growing palms in the front yard for the past 10 years. I found this site while searching for information on palms. Hope to learn a thing or two. I started out with Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Sabal louisiana, Sabal minor and Cycas revoluta. Then added a Trachycarpus fort...
