Love the Hibiscus. It comes back every year and I have people think the same thing. Didn't realize that the crotons do not do well outside until I read it somewhere. They may do alright in my yard since my irrigation runs at least twice a day and it is extremely humid here in Belmont NC this time of...

Yes. The Sabal was already 12 feet this year when I bought it. Two of the three are doing well. The installer which works for my cousin's landscape supply company said about one in four that he plants dies. I guess it's an odds game until they become established.

Home Depot had their small trachy's marked down from $29.95 to $19.95. However; four of mine were $89 and two were $59 and not on sale. I got lucky though because just before I checked out of the garden center, a new cashier stepped in and asked what kind of palms those were, and then when I told he...

After a devastating loss of one of my 12 ft Sabal Palmettos, I thought I'd help with my palm checks and balances by adding six more Trachy's..... Here's what they look like just before they're given their new home... http://i909.photobucket.com/albums/ac291/Homespectors/WillieAnneNeal-Invoice004.jpg...

Lost one Sabal Palmetto and opted for a rock in its place. I'll be adding more palms but not in this exact location. I like the Rock in with the other palms. To the right of the Rock there is one pindo, a windmill, and a needle palm. Behind the rock there are two huge Sabal Palmettos and two large w...

Sabal Palmettos....

Of the three twelve footers I've planted, one seems to be struggling. I thought it may have been due to poor drainage, but I read somewhere that sabal palmettos thrive in poorly draining soil? Any suggestions on trying to save it? I've hit it with chelated palm ferilizer for palm frizzle (according ...

Washy Question.....

I brought two 2 1/2 feet washy's in last November in their pots because of winter. They got burnt a little but were recovering nicely in my sunroom until the end of march when temps got up outside. They suddenly died inside where they had been doing great all winter. Is it possible that the longer d...

Plastic and a drop light weren't enough for my big Washys. I hope the fronds are just gone and not the entire trees. Queen palms are thoroughly burned too, but at least one (the big one) looks like it survived. All three pindos seemed to have survived but two of them have frond damage. The Sabal Min...

The two smaller queen palms I left totally unprotected seem to have survived just fine with us hitting a 15 degree low last night. I am really surprised how well all my palms have done in this cold. The Foxtail palm notwithstanding.

My foxtail palm tapped out at around 28 degrees. I thought they were as hardy as the Queens but apparently no where close as all three of my queens still look great.
