You're 100% right about being cautious. I plan to water them in mid with warm water in February regardless outside temps. Because soil will be frozen too deep to get some water to leaves on sunny days. The low temps is the test nr 1. Nr 2 is the length of the freezing temps. Nr 3 will be taking the ...

BLE zone 5b/6a update in snow

So far this winter in Riga temps were down as low as -23 Celsius (-9.4 F). For the last 3 weeks Riga hasn't seen a day with temperatures above freezing. Mostly it stays around -5 up to -10 during the day and drops to -10 or -15C during the night. A proper winter. First Eucalyptus gunnii. I planted 4...

I love evergreens. I'd like to landscape a whole yard with nothing but evergreens some day. Then I'd just add some herbaceous plants for color in the spring. I have become evergreen addict. I spend too much time and money on evergreen pants continuously for 2.5 years now. I even got a 25 x 25 plot ...

No idea what that last one is, it's neat for sure. Cherry laurel won't survive in my zone, never had one make it more than 2 winters. In Niagara (6b/7a) they can grow to 1.5 meters but will take leaf damage quite often... Are there any hollies growing there? Thx for your questions. Regarding Cherry...

BLE in Zone 5b/6a up to 10 m high - green oasis amidst snow.

This is Latvian University Botanical Garden in Riga - Zone 5b/6a. It's important to note that Riga is officially listed in Zone 6a. However over the years I've woken up in the morning to -26 Celsius (=15 Fahrenheit) too many times. Also, winters are super long and dark, because Riga is much much fur...

I've made a picture of this in London, however, I've seen only one shrub in Riga. It's fully hardy for more than 6 years. We had winters down to -15 some years ago. Hi, guys. I love cold hardy broad leaf evergreens and other exotic plants. I'm trying to make a nice collection in my allotment for a third year. This is what I bought yesterday - some sort of Agave (no label), Leucothoe, Pachysandra and Ceanothus americanus - concha https://lh3.googleusercontent.co...
