Re: My Yuccas in Zone 7a
Thanks for the reply. I just took this photo yesterday; grass is yellow from winter. I did call the nursery where I purchased the rostrata and she made a good point: it may be loose because those leaves that I just trimmed were actually adding some structural stability to the plant. Makes sense. She...

I'm by no means an insulation expert or a palm winterization guru, but speaking in generalities, I believe the best insulation is AIR. So, if you can provide and air gap between a casing and another casing, that form of insulation is desirable. Take double-pane windows for example; or an igloo coole...

Colorado Palm
You palm nuts think a palm could survive without protection in my CO zone 7A? Would be fun to try one, but I'm not one to coddle and build an insulated structure over it lol. I'll be honest im not a palm expert but from what I gather a trachy or fortunei might survive? What about a washi? That's wha...

Re: Birthday Present - Yucca Brevifolia
Here is an updated photo of my Joshua Tree. I believe it has done pretty well in it's first summer here. From what I can tell, it is growing a defined trunk and has put on a 2-4 inches. Needs to lay off the carbs ... :occasion5: Well crap. Ill post a new one tomorrow cant find it. Anyways, made it t...

Growth Progress
Here it is shortly after it was planted in Spring of 2014. http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah305/Bato367/13994366839_3d0bf453a8_o_zps00a6aa33.jpg I know its hard to tell from the photo but my rostrata has done great this year. In the center, is a trunk about the size of two pineapples! Definite...

I got a small yucca glauca from http://www.coldhardycactus.com/ I also ordered a yucca elata from there, but I found out that if you can find a nursery that buys from Monrovia, they might be able to order yucca elatas in a larger size. I'm waiting on a 1 gallon y. elata right now. I was going to re...

Aaron did your seeds ever sprout? According to my 'cactus bible', the Polycephalus is hardy to the authors zone 5 without covered protection; just good siting I assume. The author also states that the var. xeranthemoides is even more cold hardy than the sp. polycephalus. Food for thought. My polycep...

Aaron I found 3 cuttings of Ocotillo on the world wide web. Gonna try my hand at these. I'm a sissy, this is probably as much zone pushing as I'll do  I've read so many sites saying they are cold hardy anywhere from 15 and some sites saying 0, so I'll give em a shot. So my plan is to plant them...
