when the palms get larger they become more established thereby eliminating the need to cover them in the winter; or will you still have to provide some sort of protection for them even when they are large? Mike, yeah, that was the plan. But reality about my zone finally kicked in. You're correct. I...

Some are ready to be potted in their own pots. 20 some odd Y. Brevifolia, 1 Rostrata, and 7 or so Y. Brevifolia var. Jaegeriana. Notice the var. Jaegeriana on the right. They are much more broad and stout-leafed. Could be because they are in fact different varieties or the seeds are sourced from dif...

Aaron how is your Ocotillo doing? Still have it? It died, just too cold here, but have I seen two big ones Boise ID, but I think the cold last year got them. :| Dang. Thought about trying one; but my goal is to avoid plants that I have to baby all the time so I am not sure. Likely too cold here too.

There ya go, Mike! That's the way they're supposed to look. Nothing looks dry in there to me...you'd be surprised that "dampish" soil is enough moisture for them, especially if you pre-soaked the seeds. Keep the soil warm. I'd leave the cover off. If any cells start to dry out (and they d...

Accent Lighting - Night Photos

Anyone mess with accent lighting their prized plants? Any experimentation or find anything that works best? Lets see some pictures. I just took a pic of my rostrata at night. I have a cheap solar night light that I placed behind it earlier this summer. Not the greatest pic; taken with cell phone. ht...

Just my 2 cents worth. First off great job. Second you will have to put a small fan on those seedlings as they will fall over from lack of resistence from outside wind. They will stretch for light outside. Get a strong grow light with high lumens to slow the stretch. Keep up the good work. John Tha...

One of the sprouts is green while most are white. Is this normal or do they need more light or something? I assume this is perfectly normal; just curious.
