Random thought...

I've had a random thought for a long long time, and perhaps it has been discussed here before...but theoretically, if you could wrap heat cable around palm roots and protect with a large enough temporary greenhouse in winter, could you grow more tender palms in cooler climates?? (coconuts, adonidia,...

Best winter protection for SE Kansas (zone 7a)

About time to start thinking about protection methods here in southeast Kansas...our first freeze falls around the first week of November.  Here's what I have in the ground: Trachycarpus, Sabal mexicana, three Washingtonia "filibusta", and a Chamaerops humilis. I plan to build boxes from t...

Sabal minor will be fine. Would be happier with afternoon shade, so maybe shade it some if leaves seem to burn in June. Can the palmetto be up close to the house? My advice is to put a Sabal minor there. Good idea, I'll do just that...now to fill in the massive hole I made:P My palmetto would probably look and do better as a specimen palm in the yard anyway, instead of close to the house.
