I have a bunch more pics of local yuccas, I will post some more when I get a chance.. I noticed Tim posted a pic of a nice one that used to be in Fairfax,VA outside the animal shelter. Unfortunately they redid the building and that one is gone, it was pretty awesome. My favorites are the aloifolias....

Photos Yucca's in Northern Virginia ZONE 7

I snapped some pictures while out doing some sales calls last year. I still have a hard time telling these things apart. I love to see them up here because they are an oddity and it's not quite warm enough to be yucca country. Love these plants! Vienna, VA RT 123 Joshua Tree? Rostrata? Rigida? Clama...

I meant to also add that I have my yuccas zip tied to stakes.. Doesn't help with the droopy tops but prevents a total collapse.

Ordered Some Yucca Seeds from EBAY!

They're all in the mail-- 40ct Aloifolia 25ct "Soaptree" 100ct "Soapweed" 30ct "Spanish Dagger" I have no idea if the names are what will be delivered. I had no idea there was a difference between Soapweed and Soaptree, and I'm not really sure what the Spanish dagger is...

My Yuccas in Northern Virginia

These are in Alexandria, which is just outside of Washington, D.C. Zone 7, some charts me close to 8 but it has been a tough winter. :( My story starts in Virginia Beach. I bought, transported and transplanted these yuccas. I believe them to be Aloifolias but not sure. Very sharp to touch! <img src=...

I'm in Northern VA and some of mine aren't standing up as straight and upright as they were prior to this most brutal winter. I have several varieties, the aliofolias look pretty strong, the gloriosas have wilted similar to yours. I've noticed similar results on others in the DC area. I am hoping to...

I'm definitely grabbing some pictures, travelling all over the SE coast from VA to NC to SC to GA to FL. Really curious as to how much aliofolia I will be able to find. I never really knew about the different species of yucca and actually thought the alio was some palm variation.

Thanks Kris. I heard the same thing from someone else and kind of needed an amen on it.

I've transplanted some Aloifolia and they are a lot more adaptable than Gloriosa. I am hoping to find some good starts and devote one flower bed to them.

Mailing and Transporting Yucca Cuttings

I'm taking a trip by car to Florida in February, I live in Northern Virginia outside Washington D.C. Zone 7A/B.. I am hoping to find some yuccas growing wild along the way on the coasts, in particular Yucca Aliofolia (Spanish Bayonet). I have had better luck with the Aliofolia in my garden than Glor...

Great looking plants. I went to London last year for the first time and was very surprised at the number of yuccas and even palms that were in the city. I saw many of the trunking variety as you pictured in small parks or in the gardens and yards of homes in Mayfair and Kensington. I live in the Gre...

No unfortunately I don't know what part of NM, I think wherever the air force base is or close. The mother plant for this looks like it could be a rigida, longer stem and blades that stick out aggressively. I will get a pic of that, maybe it will help. I can't remember ever seeing the white flowers ...

Help Me ID This Yucca!

A nice woman in my neighborhood let me dig out one her yuccas, she had about 5 of them, this was one of the smaller ones. Hers are pretty hardy and had longer trunks than the usual clumping variety I see around the East Coast and don't really care for. She said they were brought back from New Mexico...

OK pretty lightweight and nothing to brag about, but since it is close to the house, I hope it will live prosper and live long. Looking to fertilize in a couple of weeks. Soil was Virginia clay but I replaced with top soil and a little bit of sand. http://s17.postimg.org/w3bb0mu9n/IMG_20130501_17174...

Palms in Northern Virgina

I finally broke down a bought a Needle Palm at Home Depot this week. Planted it along a patio wall of my northeast facing condo. Really hoping I can make this work! It seems a given that I will have to cover up in the winter, even though the palm itself is against a wall and there is a retaining wal...
