Thanks Mike, it really is like losing a family member isn't it! These are my babies, I put so much work into them but it's all learning experiences too and for my next home I will know what more to do from the beginning and what not to do. New adventures ahead!

Trachy Death

Hi All, my unsheltered Trachy succumbed to its fungal issue and sadly I had to dig it up. Many spears pulled from the center were mushy and smelly, the rest of the tree's petioles were going black. Hopefully its not a matter of time before the other Trachy heads in the same direction, I'm still pray...

Yes Ive taken all winter cover off long ago. its back to rain today for the next 3 days so when we get a break I'll take new pictures and post them. Regarding the sheltered Trachy, maybe on the coldest nights when I wrapped the leaves up, it caused the tree some rot, maybe I left it on too long in b...

great advice Barb  Both Trachys still have no sign of new growth. I poured the copper fungicide down both trunks and we were lucky to have a few days of warm dry weather. the last spear is dried up on the one that had shelter...the one without shelter has a little spear down inside and I'm sti...

Thank you Barb - Wes also suggested the copper so I'll be applying that today...we finally have sun! hope it's shining there for you too. I agree, we need some heat, won't that finally be nice! I'll let you know how it goes. thanks for the reassurance (my poor babies!! :( )

Thanks everyone! Jordan I have copper fungicide too and another member suggested I use it. It's a powder I mix into a solution but I thought I'd try my Defender first. Perhaps I'll get on it with the copper if that helped your Trachy I'd sure like to see some growth soon on mine too. Again...will ke...

Hi Andy, I use Defender (by the Safer's brand). Have you tried spraying a bit of dish soap diluted in water to wash it off? maybe I or some other folks on here can help identify the problem if you posted some pictures?

Hi Barb - thanks, I'll get some pics up very soon. I wondered why both tree are brown and wilted, especially being established for 3 years now. I expected the damage to be more to the other tree but not both. yeah...the spears are brown, soft, wilted and no growth. not good.

Another Trachy Updates

My two poor trachys look like they're headed for doom. I have covered them to keep the moisture out...applied fungicide in hopes to remedy the white mold problem on the center spear. It hasn't grown at all, just keeps getting more brown and wilted. I'm tugging gently to check for spear pull and so f...

Hi Tim - I'm in the Greater Vancouver Area, on the mainland, way across from Salt Spring Island. Our weather here is very rainy and wet. it has been a long and cooler than normal winter for everyone, including here so that doesn't help. I'm wondering if the palms are rotting or something.

Trachy and Garden Update

Hi All - been out of the loop a bit, due to a very busy February. Thought I'd post an update on my two Trachys, one with a shelter and one without.
