Trichocereus Pachanoi in bloom

I have had this cactus for about 10 years and this year it finally decided to show off. It was really amazing for me to see this. It put out four separate flowers. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c202/Patrick620/IMAG0131.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c202/Patrick620/IMAG0147.jpg http://i28...

PVC pipe germination results are in....finally

Hello, all. Well it's been a while since I've posted anything on here but I wanted to share the results of my PVC pipe experiment. It worked GREAT. In the bottom I used some "green moss" craft stuff, to hold the dirt in and I drilled a small horizontal hole and slid a toothpick in it to ho...

Vintage hifi equipment

Anyone else here into vintage audio? I've been pretty much consumed lately with finding(with much success) vintage receivers and speakers. My wife is very thrilled about all of the piles of equipment everywhere, too. ;) I suppose a guy could have worse hobbies though. Anyway, I just wonder...

Well, here's how it went.... The spray made the plants smell like "wet dog" for one thing. That faded away after a couple of days. My bananas didnt like the spray at all. It put brown spots on the leaves. The plumeria liked it even less. It ruined the leaves on it. At that point I stripped...

Cheap grow lights in Kansas

Found this post on craigslist for anyone in Kansas. They say 277v but I called the guy to confirm what I already know and that is that a lot of them have multi-tap ballasts and can easily be rewired to 110v

Spider mites and my findings (long)

I wanted to share some of what I've learned thus far about spider mites and their control or, ideally, their eradication. First off, I will tell you what I've used to deal with them. I mist my plants two or three times a day (now) and have constant air movement, via fans. I have used insecticidal so...

Ah, yes. E. millii (Crown of thorns) I use to have two large ones that would bloom profusely all year. If I remember right, mine liked a lot of water. If I would forget to water them, they would drop quite a few leaves and stop flowering. Nice plants, Steve.

I went to move some of my palms around and discovered that not only have I been incubating palm seeds but grasshoppers as well  So far I've killed 21 of the little boogers. I suppose it could be a worse and harder to get rid of pest, but this was a first for me. I've always went out of my way...

Traveler's palm seedling problem

This seedling seemed to be doing very well. It's nice and green, been in full sun(south window sill) for over a month, watered when dry, fresh well draining soil, lightly fertilized with 8-6-6 with macros, no bugs, all other seedlings are doing great except this one. Any thoughts on what's going on ...
