Sprouting Coconut

Found a coconut starting to sprout. http://s2.postimage.org/6p23ep9g/P2210016.jpg I always checkout the coconuts when I'm at the store for this exact reason. I noticed right away one of the Eyes was popping. I've been soaking it a couple days and keeping it warm. I'm going to pot it up soon a...

Question: I mystified by why spider mites won't touch a spindle palm. Every year I battle these mites on all my palms but never one on my spindle palm. NOT ONE!! Even when its by the other infested palms. Anyone have any ideas? What does this palm have that keeps mites off it. Can you make a miticid...

Wxman,

I just don't have the nerve or a place that is good for them. I know I'd lose them and in cant imagine protecting a 17 foot queen.
Maybe one day a Trachy in the ground next to the house.

Yeah. I'm only about 15 mins to WI

Nope.

It hasn't hurt any of them yet. A few times they were in there all day or all night. The Solar cover is usually on so they're somewhat floating. Not at the bottom.
I'd water heavily to rinse the soil.

Maybe it at least killed some of those f'in spider mites!

Barb Yeah we get storms like that every year. Hate the wind. Have to pull palms out the pool. At least my big ones in the massive 75 gal stock tanks never go over. Just too much weight to them as seen in the video. :D Usually when I'm home I prepare and move palms to a safe place. (west against the ...

I'm going to have to try this as well. These spider mites are the one thing that drive me crazy all winter indoors. It seems that nothing works on these guys. (It's like they're invincible) I'll be picking up garlic today and putting them in the pots. Any recommendations on amount per pot/palm size?...
