Back in Florida. Last week, W and I brought down her horse and cat. Not an easy drive, as with the horse one must go non-stop. Motel 6 may be pet-friendly but even they don't let you bring a stallion into your room overnight. So, about 26 hours on the road. Brief breaks for diesel, soda and to pee....

Re: Spear Pull on Windmill Palm (Summer)

What would cause the spear to pull on a windmill palm in the summer? It's 3 gallon palm, first year in the ground. It was very dry for a long time here in the summer. Spear pulled with what appears fungus growing at the center. Not sure what I did wrong. Should I avoid watering the palm from the to...

Have you tried any sabal minor's in the ground? Hey Toronto Palms, I've overwintered Sabal Minors rather easily here in our Zone 6 Burlington. They are actually stronger (in my opinion) than Needle palms. They are actually flowering now and have produced seed for the last 2 summers. If you like the...

I have too many little tropicals and I'd love for someone else to enjoy them. I have various size of Agave Americana from solo cup to 3 gallon size and agave tequiliana 1 gallon probably around 16-20" tall, agave filifera small and a couple other agave varieties, also cold hardy opuntia pads. ...

Takil is a deemed (arguably) as the most cold hardy. Mine is a fast grower, as long as the soil is dry, cold is less an issue. On my more tender palms, I use a heat cable underground for the root ball on the extreme days (Jan/Feb). They are alive and well after a few years here, so it must help with...

Agave question... do you leave the pups in the ground over winter, or do you cut them away to pot them up.

My larger Blue Amerc. was overwintered fine, but the pups Im concerned about. Your thoughts.

I would get both of those in the ground next Spring, late April or early May. Do NOT Fertilize until July/August. Make sure you dig your hole twice as wide as the root ball, and introduce a triple mix and Sand with native soil. Must be well drained in our Toronto Clay soil. Tavi is right, Arbotex is...

Drying out Pindo spear and browning fronds

Unsure what's happening here... 3 rd winter in ground, looked great until I applied some fertilizer... Maybe overwatered as well. I guess I'll let it ride out... Spear is green and solid, but I'm sure it will decline. Any similar experiences? My sabal is doing the same... :-( http://s15.postimg.org/...
