Re: desert garden blog
Hi Aaron... Nice to hear from you :) Thanks for the update of your desert plants. That Rostrata/thompsoniana smaller plant on close examination has a lot of fine filaments in the plant so maybe some elata genes there. I do like the Agave Utahensis x Neomexicana hybrid.. might even survive here as not...

Re: Hooray it's spring again! How was everybody's winter?
Hi all Winter here was mild with a minimum of 19.4F but generally around 23F. All my palms ..Butia, Chamaerops and Trachies were all ok. Yuccas with the exception of one all ok. Agaves too ok but Filifera has heavily fungused leaves. So quite happy really and I'm in a cold part of the Country. Dicks...

Re: My Yuccas in Zone 7a
I have heard from a colleague on another forum saying his rostrata was growing well with just one strong root when it was moved. As you can see from the pic above it looks ok but I have had problems with a Yucca rostrata x rigida hybrid. Can only think it is a moisture issue as my lowest temp all Wi...

Re: My Yuccas in Zone 7a
Hi Bato... your Rostrata is growing well from its original planting. The plant looks healthy so if you have root issues it would normally show on the head. The pic you have shown looks like a summer pic as the grass is parched? As far as I know Rostratas just have rootballs The plant should be solid...

I have three species of Pittosporum in my garden... Tobira, Omeiense, and Illicioides var angustifolium. All three species have survived the Winters here. P heterophyllum should be reasonably hardy. Take care with the Australian species as they are not so hardy as the Asian species. My biggest proble...

Extreme weather in Central and southern Europe
I know you've had cold weather in the States/Canada but in Europe it's been brutally cold as well. Here in the UK we have been lucky in that we have been protected by the Azores high that has kept that Arctic ingression at bay... for now at least https://twitter.com/severeweatherEU?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

Hi Aaron a belated thanks for showing your beautiful J trees ... Yucca Brevifolia. Sorry to hear you had problems with damage on some of your plants. Presumably the temperature issue does not happen in their own natural habitat? Just thought I'd let you know that on this side of the Atlantic that Sp...

Similar this side of the Atlantic... very mild weather which is now being driven by the jet stream so lots more cloud/wind/rain but crucially arriving from a southwesterly direction. Temps are due to drop as the month progresses. It makes up for an abysmal Summer where the UK had little warmth where...

Hi Aaron... Since my original thread I have bought two Yucca Filifera and a Yucca Decipiens. One perished before last Winter (Crown rot) and the other is still in a pot. The decipiens survived last Winter but with a lot of basal leaf rot. Sadly will have to be covered this Winter. Some pics of my ne...

Aaron.... they both look good and looks like three heads forming on the blue Yucca. I am not used to seeing Rostrata flowering so young, probably a climate thing? I have just lost a trunked green Rostrata after flowering a few years ago perhaps the root system was not good and too much moisture in m...

Yucca linearifolia x torreyi hybid
I managed to get hold of this hybrid very recently. Its definitely not Torreyi or Linearifolia. Night shot http://s2.postimg.org/66xm1qr2d/IMG_3755.jpg Detail http://s15.postimg.org/vzcgawmvr/IMG_3750.jpg http://s17.postimg.org/m1vbjtzgr/IMG_3751.jpg http://s7.postimg.org/kvuq4rr47/IMG_3752.jpg :D

Tetrapanax.... getting bigger
I've had this plant for a good few years now. It was cut to the ground in the perma freeze of Dec'10 and was knocked back in the 2011/12 Winter also. But after that it has grown and grown. In warmer gardens they can become a pest. For sure this plant needs its own space http://s30.postimg.org/5flpw6...

Chad.... even though I'm zone 8a I don't get off that lightly. Despite a -7C min I've lost one of my oldest Agaves which I had for 5 years in the ground.. Agave Montana and even managed leaf burn on Agave havardiana. http://s23.postimg.org/jmvy2hxp3/IMG_3483.jpg http://s16.postimg.org/ky5rwamfl/IMG_...
