Re: desert garden blog

Hi Aaron... Nice to hear from you :) Thanks for the update of your desert plants. That Rostrata/thompsoniana smaller plant on close examination has a lot of fine filaments in the plant so maybe some elata genes there. I do like the Agave Utahensis x Neomexicana hybrid.. might even survive here as not...

Re: Hooray it's spring again! How was everybody's winter?

Hi all Winter here was mild with a minimum of 19.4F but generally around 23F. All my palms ..Butia, Chamaerops and Trachies were all ok. Yuccas with the exception of one all ok. Agaves too ok but Filifera has heavily fungused leaves. So quite happy really and I'm in a cold part of the Country. Dicks...

Re: My Yuccas in Zone 7a

I have heard from a colleague on another forum saying his rostrata was growing well with just one strong root when it was moved. As you can see from the pic above it looks ok but I have had problems with a Yucca rostrata x rigida hybrid. Can only think it is a moisture issue as my lowest temp all Wi...

Re: My Yuccas in Zone 7a

Hi Bato... your Rostrata is growing well from its original planting. The plant looks healthy so if you have root issues it would normally show on the head. The pic you have shown looks like a summer pic as the grass is parched? As far as I know Rostratas just have rootballs The plant should be solid...

Extreme weather in Central and southern Europe

I know you've had cold weather in the States/Canada but in Europe it's been brutally cold as well. Here in the UK we have been lucky in that we have been protected by the Azores high that has kept that Arctic ingression at bay... for now at least https://twitter.com/severeweatherEU?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

I used to grow this species and found it to be the last shrub to lose its foliage and the first plant to produce new shoots/leaves in the Springtime. Almost Evergreen but not quite. My specimen had a creamy white flacking bark and shone like a beacon in the Winter gloom.

Similar this side of the Atlantic... very mild weather which is now being driven by the jet stream so lots more cloud/wind/rain but crucially arriving from a southwesterly direction. Temps are due to drop as the month progresses. It makes up for an abysmal Summer where the UK had little warmth where...

I've had this plant for a good few years now. It was cut to the ground in the perma freeze of Dec'10 and was knocked back in the 2011/12 Winter also. But after that it has grown and grown. In warmer gardens they can become a pest. For sure this plant needs its own space http://s30.postimg.org/5flpw6...
