You have an amazing collection of palm trees and other exotic plants! I agree with Tim. You need to get a greenhouse or conservatory for all your plants. :D

Zone 9 microclimates eh? Suddenly I find myself tempted to buy many C. Radicalis seeds and sow them close to my house (where it would be slightly warmer), and then see what happens in several years. C. Radicalis is one of my favorites of the genus. It's so easy to get carried away when buying plants...

Nice pictures. I liked the tree-form chamaedorea radicalis. Would any chamaedorea species even survive outside in the Pacific Northwest? I've heard some interesting reports, but I'm not sure...

That's a nice Chamaerops you've got there! I was wondering why some fronds were greener than others on my specimen. I'll keep mine covered during the rainiest months to keep moisture (and possibly some snow) out of the crown.

Welcome! I find it interesting what growers in the UK are able to accomplish because I also face relatively mild winters and summers here in Seattle.

Looks great! I'd happily take some of that heat away from you if it's too much!

How old are your Washingtonias?

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll get this palm planted soon, and if I'm lucky, I'll have some seeds to plant by the end of the summer.

Thanks for the info, Kris! I'm definitely going to plant this in the backyard in a sunny place. I don't really have any plans for winter protection (since it doesn't get that cold here). I'll mulch the area as well and make sure the soil is fast-draining and stuff like that. I'm in Seattle, so we ge...

New Chamaerops Humilis var. Cerifera! (and other stuff)

Well, I've obtained a new Blue Mediterranean Fan Palm! I like the color of the fronds and it's already producing some fruit. It's also sending up 3 new fronds at the moment, so I'm guessing it's pretty happy at the moment! http://i.imgur.com/TBkFvl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/93Sw9l.jpg http://i.imgur.co...

Wow! I look forward to seeing the progress on that Jubaea Chilensis seedling! That must have taken some patience to wait for that to germinate!

Chilean Wine Palms have been grown around here, but they can sometimes attract unwanted attention, unfortunately: http://montlaker.com/2012/05/04/arboretum-seeks-information-on-chilean-tree-vandalism/ I'll definitely have to try a European Fan Palm at some point, and perhaps some sort of Butia! That...

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! Paul - Bismarckia looks very intriguing. I think I'd need some winter protection for it, but it would be awesome to be one of the few people in Seattle with something with such striking blue fans! Back in June, I actually did get some dates from the grocery store, w...

Greetings from Seattle!

Hi everyone! I'm from Seattle (Zone 8b, apparently), and I thought it was kind of risky growing palm trees out here until I read some of the posts here! Lots of Trachycarpus Fortunei palms are grown around here, but I haven't noticed any other kinds yet. My collection is very small so far, but I'm n...
