I think you are very knowledgeable about the cold hardy topic. I agree with everything you said. I also think that its ignorance on the part of the nursery society. Where I live (zone 6a-6b), it is dismissed as foolishness to try and grow palms here. It's not possible or so it would seem. There is a...

Does anyone in Ontario know where I can get a queen palm? Home depot has carried them but the one here has none anymore. I don't mind a drive.
Thanks

cedardave, So, if you could just leave your full address and directions to your house, also, please leave all the palms out in a dark open area and turn off any alarms or motion detector lights that would be great..thanks!!! Just kidding, Where did you score all those? Especially the Christmas palm ...

Lucky1, I see you have it planted. Just a suggestion, all the Musa's I got from Corolla are in bigger pots and I bring them in at night. When I bring them in they can literally pop a leaf every 2 or 3 nights or so, I left them outside for a few days, a few weeks ago and they slowed right down so, if...

Found some 5-30 foot palms in Ontario.
Hey everyone, For those of you in and around Southern Ontario, I have found a place which carry's large palms. The most cold hardy they have is the robusta in 8-15 foot trunks!!! Mostly carry kings, queens, lady, foxtail, Christmas, and a few more I don't remember. All are up to 30 feet (total). Cos...

Okanagan desert-palms, Ya I took in the bananas. I do every night. They grow so much better inside. As far as the palms go, both of mine come from the south, I know the Windmill is from Georgia and the Robusta is from Florida (I think). I am sure they have never seen frost before. Better to be safe ...

After several weeks of sunny warm weather (upper teens to low 20's) I find out we are supposed to get frost!!!!!!!! So, out come the christmas flood lights. I have put 2 at the bottom of each planted palm to keep the frost at bay. I put my hand on the tunks and they were warmer then the outside temp...

Hmmm, The plant it's self is doing great. I plant everything in miracle grow soil and water 1-2 times a day. Whats odd is, if I keep the plants inside they grow like crazy, I mean I could go to bed and have a folded leaf and wake up to a open leaf with a new one poking out. Outside on the deck they ...

Oops...anyone know anything about germinating?
So I picked a bunch of seeds from a mature Sable Palmetto or very similar when I was in Orlando in November 06. I have had them planted since I got back in Nov. I gave up on them and decided to chuck them to make room for new seedlings. I picked one of the pods up and saw a root sticking out of it. ...

They do look ruff. I have given them lots of water and they are in the sun. I guess we'll see. For the money I paid I expected better. There is a article about me in the Hamilton Spectator if anyone wants to look http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?GXHC_gx_session_id_=64ae3bfc29...

Question and pics of new Washys from B.C
The question is this, these came over night from B.C. When I took them out of the box they looked very beat up. I have taken some pics and would like some feedback from you. Perhaps since they were over nighted they were in a airplane and froze? I don't know. Any thoughts would be great http://uploa...
