Hey, thanks for the welcome. I have been growing palms in IOWA for about 7 years. Everything from seed. currently I have CIDP, W Robusta, Kentia, PIDP, Sabal Minor, Jelly, Queen and my favorite challenge...Chilean wine palm....and after 4 years its still small....damn slow growing plant..! I have three inside this year. Two are 4 years old and one is 6yrs. I over winter them inside and in IOWA winter is 6 months long. They are doing fantastic, no mites, very tolerant of indoor conditions and central heat ducts blowing right on them. The only problem is size....not so tall, but really ...

more on the light topic......100 watt Fluorescents are not so good for anything but seedlings. Not to mention that most Fluorescents are in the "pink" spectrum and not in the "white" which promotes leafy growth. If your going to use anything for artificial light, invest in MH Metal Halide lighting ...

while these are great looking plants, they are not for the indoors. I have gone through no less then 6 of them and just bought two more. I keep trying different methods, but they all end the same way.....dead! they are horrible mite/mealybug magnets, they are finicky with house water (use rain water ...
