The K-Star is a 5 kilowatt pool heater. The pump and heater push foodgrade antifreeze thru 300 or so feet of underground pipe that coils around the root balls of each plant in the buildings. I have 35 bales of straw surrounding the plants. I figure this will help keep some moisture in the soil as we...

I have a 4 foot butia capitata, An 8 foot tall bismarkia, 4 foot european fan palm, and 2 windmill palms. I was thinking of a more permanent housing as you suggest. it would indeed be better to have it remain in the ground. Im thinking I will wrap the roots and insulate the ground around it with some added heat as well. Protection over the winter will be achieved with similar strategies that I have read...

when to plant outside

I just picked up a pretty good sized windmill palm from a local greenhouse and put it into my greenhouse. The forcast here has temps that could go to -8 or so a couple nights. Im thinking I will wait a few weeks yet to put in the ground. What temps would be fairly safe to plant a new windmill into t...

Bismarckia hardiness???

Hello, I just bought a couple of Bismarckia palms. The nursery didnt know anything about them so here I am. Are these as cold hardy as the windmill palm?I suspect not but could use some care and maintenance advice from anyone who may have these.

If its a triangle palm you need why not pick one up at Rona. The Rona in Winnipeg has small ones(about a foot tall) for $7 and larger ones( around 4 feet tall ) for $29. I dont know if the stores in your area have the same suppliers.. but its worth looking. Just in case your seeds dont arrive.

I have a christmas palm that was overwintered indoors. The palm has pretty much stalled any growth...no biggie, probly not warm enough yet. There seems to be a bubble of water mid way up the trunk! The trunk below this is now misshapen and bubbles out where the water is. Is this tree a gonner?
