Canadian Plant: When you see that Edmonton is below -40c, that is the International Airport readings, 20km outside of the city in a sinkhole. Its always on average 10 degrees colder than the city centre and my backyard seems to mimic city centre. It was -35C this year as a low (-46 airport) and that ...

Everyone, the new palm is slowly rising out of the crown!!! It is a little burnt on the top but its all green underneath that and its probably gained an inch the past couple days with the near 80's weather. Give me a week and I'll post a picture, I want it to be a little bit bigger and we have mid ...

Beginning of my Edmonton, Alberta desert garden.
I was very impressed at the desert garden in Calgary thats been started up and shown in these forums. I'm going to be creating a whole second garden in my front yard that will be all desert plants. This Yucca filamentosa is the first of many but its in my non-desert garden. It looks too tropical ...

Trachy Palm in Edmonton
Hey everyone: I had planted a windmill in Edmonton in my backyard last year and left it with no protection all winter. All of the leaves browned off as you would expect them to, but as I checked the inside of the crown today, it seems like a new fan is pushing out. I may be crazy but its green ...

Allen, I'm looking to plant a bunch of yuccas this year. Many of the same type that you have. I would love to try the elata, it looks like a possible winner for trunked yuccas in our area. Did you start yours from seed? I'm guessing my best bet is to go back to Kelowna. I shall be doing that soon! I ...

Allen: A yucca color gaurd filamentosa I planted in a clients yard came through 100% with flying colors and flowered last year. Its big though so maybe thats the key. Calplants are offering huge trunked yuccas for a great price on their ebay sttore. We both need to get some of those. 60 bucks for a ...

Hey Allen: I might have a solution to this problem. Cannor nurseries off hwy 60 has become my new supplier for trees. They are smaller than the normal millcreek i go to but also seem to listen a little more. The owners daughter lives in California and had no clue about yuccas living here and are ...

Oh Yes! I get to wake up to -4c and 3mm of snow this morning. I take the CTV weather advice much more so than the weather network and they say its going to be +4 today and +8 tomorrow with no temps going below -5c in the long range. Lets hope it can hit those temps so we can have clear roads again ...

Cal Plants
This site looks really good for delivery of Yuccas upto 4 feet tall and large agaves.
http://www.cabrillonets.com/calplants/p ... ?cat_id=23
They are already setup to deal with international customers and the prices aren't half bad for larger ones. Check it out if you're from Canada.

Hey Paul: What does your Phyllostachys nuda look like. Are the leaves brown or a yellowish color? I planted one of these in an exposed windy site that took -35c this winter and the leaves are a yellowish color but not brown and it for some reason still looks alive. Either way I think they grow back ...

Edmonton temperature ticker
I don't know why this bugs me so much, but seeing the international airport ticker for Edmonton above the site here is a bad representation of the temperatures in Edmonton. They can be up to 10 degrees different at any point in time. How about putting up the municipal airport ticker? :D http://www ...

Year to date we have had 9 inches of rain. Average is around 16 inches. Phoenix, AR is classified as an arid climate and has an average of 12 inches of rain a year. I'm predicting these drying effects of global warming are beginning especially here in the great plains. I guess trunked Yucca's may be ...

So as global warming is arriving, Edmonton gets colder and colder. Its almost mid-April and its snowing over 5cm today. I don't know if we've had any days close to average yet which is a far cry from almost everyday over the average last year in April. Allen, we need some divine intervention ...
