Thanks If they are growing inside right now they are not dormant. If you would like them to become dormant just lea...

Artic palm, You should cut the dying leaves off and put the plants into storage since they are likely dormant right now. How big did you Musa basjoo's get this summer? I was a little disappointed with the growth of mine because we had some really cool nights in July that seemed to slow their growth ...

tropical_niagara, when night time lows are >15C then the fun begins. They will start to grow vertical and the leaves will increase in size. In Niagara you should start to see this happen near the end of June. Here is a picture of my Musa basjoo that was about the same size as yours this time last ye...

I am pretty inexperienced compared to others on this forum. Your palms look a little limp/wilted which could be as a result of bare rooting them. The fronds look like the palm was picked up by the pot and shook hard. Allen I agree with Allen. The palms were not handled with care. The plants look he...

Musa basjoo in the Toronto Star
I not sure if any the board members have seen this article in the Toronto Star. It was published in November of last year. Phil posted the article, but there was a database error in the forum board and the post was deleted. Enjoy!

Tropicman, Its good to hear that the your temperatures are warm enough that you can plant out your bananas. I still have a few weeks until the last frost. I can't believe somebody tried to steal your banana plants! What is wrong with people these days? I would suggest one of those really loud person...

macrario,
You can try contacting the people at http://www.amazinggardens.com/. They breed needle palms and may be able to send you some pollen. This is the only source I know of. Hopefully they can help you.

Thanks everyone1, Sorry macario, I didn't mean to inadvertently hi-jack your thread. Phil, Unfortunately my palm did not make it. It was not because of cold weather, but rather my light shifted on a cold night and pointed right at the trunk. When I uncovered the plant had dried out :(. I will try ag...

Maybe Opuntia humifusa (Prickly pear) cactus might be the best choice. They are native to Southern Ontario and may do well in your zone. I don't think they like wet soil so you will have to amend the soil with lots of sand and erect a shelter over them for winter. Hope this helps and I will let the ...
