Thanks ya'll!

uhm.... call me a novice cuz thats what i am... but.. you can cut the leaves off at beginning of the stalk and dig the whole thing up and just keep it in a dry place over winter?

Am I miss-interpreting something here?

This is one of the leftovers from the first 10 I planted last summer. It was wintered inside in a pot tho and seems to have stopped growing up and just continues to put on new leaves. These only get about an hour and a half of direct light a day. Its still very pretty.

Sad thing about that. I can't find my paperwork from when I bought it. I dont know! I wish I did cuz i want to buy a few more of them. They seem to do better in my climate here then the Basjoos do.

return of the bananas

I had 10 plants planted last summer. Southwestern Idaho zone 6 (i think.) After not protecting them at all last winter I had three come back. Ive learned the importance of mulching, but also the hardiness of these Bananas. This ones my baby. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e349/DrKungPao/IMG_2643 ...

Listening to some of the conditions that the rest of you all are working with makes me feel not so bad about the mild-ish desert environment (if you can call a desert :twisted: mild lol) of the Boise valley.

Sorry to hear things are so rugged where you are yuccaman. Best wishes for sunny weather.

success!-ish... im hoping. The operation took almost 1.75 hours.. It was tricky. They were SO tangled up. The one thing im impressed with is how resiliant the root structure actually was. If they had been brittle it never would have worked. From start to finish the whole thing took alot longer then ...

Sounds like experience to me. Thanks kansas. The little I could turn up from searching for a while seemed to support that also. They really arent that exspensive that it could be worth it to some person to sacrifice a few to get just one good stock, if it could be done.
