than I think you will be in luck. If you bring it in for the Winter, Keep in the dry side and lot's of sun thru a window. Then Mid March, get some old cow manure and mix it in the soil and water well. By at least mid May, you will see a new flush

If the 3 leafs are still intact, pull one down and see if the leaf base pulls away very easliy from the trunk. If it does, it's a goner. If it doesn't pull away from the trunk at all, you might be alright. Also, If you can take the tree by the trunk and easily shake it out of the soil, it means you ...

Erik, To me, it seems the larger Sago's take about a year in ground to properly establish themselves. It might be worthwhile to find a couple larger containers to leave them in year round, or maybe pot plant them each year so a basic rootball is left intact. Wes, (Kansas), does that each year. Have...

Sable Minor, Undoubtably, hardiest

We had the coldest Winter here in Northern Kansas that we have had in at least 7-8 years. I planted IN THE GROUND, a Sable Minor 3 Winters ago, on the South West side of the house. I figured this Winter would be the lastsince it was the coldest in recent memory. However, I just checked and there is ...

I finally removed most all foliage. Spring appears to have sprung here. Dean, do me a favor. Go to a local Dairy or Beef farm and kindly tell the owner what you have going, and ask him for a little 5 gallon bucket full of 2-3 year old manure. Take that and put about 3/4lbs of it around your Sago. W...

THe greenhouse never gets too hot because I keep the window vents and front door open, so the wind blows thru. Actually, I think I am going to get rid of my greenhouse because the only reason I use it now is from October to December & March to mid April for an extra 2-3 months growing season for...

Everything back in the Greenhouse

With Temps now in the high 50's and lows not below frezzing for a few days, I wanted to get everything brought from the basement and put in the greenhouse so I can get a head start on Flushing. Before I put them in the basement, I cut a lot of leaves off, hoping that it would help early flushes. Wel...

Looking for a donation- Butia

My favorite palm is the Butia.

I know these grow like weeds in some parts.

My Butia has decided to go ahead and get spear pull and it is a goner.

Does anybody have a/couple "weeds" that they would like to dig up and send my way

For those of you that are like me and bring your cycads inside for the Winter, I wait to bring them in until the first cold snap browns the leaves. Then I bring them in, let them set inside for 3-4 weeks, then I cut the leaves off. IMO this allows the plant to save some energy and get ready for the ...

Also, I found out why it is growing so vigorously. I went to lift it up to bring it inside for the Winter and it had 3 roots, about 2" round @, growing into the ground. I had to cut them. I hope it lives!!
