In addition to the one two lil ones you gave me, I have two adults, one about your size and another that is about twice that big.
I have them in the bedroom. What is it with these in the Winter? I know they drop leaves or someting like that????

With tupperware type tubes, do you put the lid on? Here is what I did with my Roby seeds... I took some very clear plastic bowls, filled with perlite and manure and then wetted. I have them under a grow light in a room that is about 72-73 degrees. I had them in a baggie with bottom heat, they got mo...

Those ARE great!! I do have a question. THose have a trunk and I saw on another board somebody's had a little trunk. The one I have is still a youngen but it does have a trunk. I thought these were clumping palms that grew the trunk underground. Is it just a matter of keeping the leaves trimmed so t...

Just went out to look at the trees after this mornings rains and I have a new flush starting on the "Shogun" Cycad you gave me from "Chumley's". I can't wait until you come up next spring and we go to "Arnold's Greenhouse" in LeRoy. Then you can say high to all you old ...

Late season growth spurt
It has been 70's for high and low 50's for lows. We got a darn good lil soaking rain this morning. I decided I needed to start thinking of bringing my pot planted palms in so I went out & inspected. WOW, if these mild temps and good soaking rains do this, I may not bring them in until early Nove...

You will Trachys are the exact opposite of every other palm tree you will ever have or see. They love the shade and ABSOLTLY HATE direct sunlight. Do NOT put it in direct sunlight, not even for 2-3 hours a day. In case you can get your hands on some, mine LOVE 2-3 year old cow manure. Mine were all ...

Put them in the baggie method and nothing happened for 6 months with bottom heat. Figured I had nothing to lose, I took them and sanded them do...

On all my other seeds that pop, you can tell the root from the "trunk". Basically, you can tell which way to plant seed after the baggie method. However, after 7 months of baggie, I have a Trithinax Campestrix seed that popped. However, it doesn't have the identity if the root from the tru...

KNNN, your Banyan...
Last night, with warnings of storms with HIGH winds, I brought in a couple of my trees. One of them was the Banyan you gave me.
Just to let you know, it has grown probably 9" - 10" since you gave it to me.
I wish I could take pics to show you how your stuff was doing.

Yellow Grove Bamboo
I thought I had just one culm groing. After I checked today, I noticed I had 6-7 culms just starting to come out of the ground. With this aggresive running bamboo, a lot were darn near the side of the pot. So I took a big tub (2' deep, 2' wide 3' long) and drilled holes in the bottom. I put in a mix...

Broken banana
last night we had a damn good storm. the wind knocked over my potted coconut. When it fell, it hit my banana and broke the banana about 1 1/2' up from the base. It is not flopping, but it is dmaged to where it now leans.
Should I cut it down to past the break, or should I leave it?

The one you gave me, I was wondering if I should really repot as I like my palms to be sort of rootbound so they get all the nutrients ( I give "Peter's" 20-20-20 about every 7-8 days and some "Superthrive"). But after doing a little research, EVERY article tells me to give it a ...

To everybody that had center pull this year on their Pygmy Date Palm, DO NOT THROW IT AWAY! I had mine pull two center spears about 3 weeks ago. I was so worried about my King Sago's. Last summer, I pot planted 3 of them in the front of my old house. 2 of them put out new flushes, but got beat the crap out of by Hail. So when we moved out in Sept, I pulled the pots out. To my horrification, the roots had shot out the bottom and when I pulled...
