Kansas' Front Yard pic 5/1/2008

Here is my front yard. Hard to tell, but there are actually two "Madagascar Palms" in front of the Yucca. They Yucca BTW is still hanging on to leaves that died this Winter so it looks scraggly. Middle there is a Dioon Edule and beside it a Revoluta. On the side is my "Snowball Verban...

These are VERY VERY tempermental palms. They are almost like a human in their mood swings. I would say yours are doing fine. I wouldn't water them any more than you already are as what OPPalm was refering to was when it is in bright unfiltered sun is when it needs LOTS of water. What you need to do ...

I tell you what, these seeds are as fresh as they come as they are picked, then pushed into an envelope and sent. I have had TREMENDOUS luck with her seeds. She is so great! I'll keep you...

The first one, the center spear was just barely visable. It was not showing hardly anything. In fact, you can kinda see where it is black, then the green starts, thats where it was before Winter. The second one (Desert Zone) has REALLY showed some ups. It too was barely visable, and there was no sig...

I learned this spring while I had the top open on the shelter and the heat cables turned off, that the reflected heat from the stucco wall of the house increased the temperature in the shelter by 5* to 20* depending on the number of hours of sun and the amount of cloud cover. That would be at least...

HUGE findings for North Palm growers

Well at least I personally think it is... I have done it myself and can now positivly state that Palms CAN make it in Kansas or in other Zone 5 WITH OUT PROTECTION! Last year I planted a Sabal Minor that I got from "Desert Zone", and I also planted a Minor that I got from "Laaz",...

Set yours outside once temps start to get above 70's (and maybe bring them inside if lows are below 50's) and water really well. You will be able to visably see new growth in a week.

Steve, I pot planted mine outside last week. Then came those two days of sustained 40-50 MPH winds (not gusts, but sustained) and they lost a few leaves. But they have LOVED it so far. Sure you know this, but give them lots of water with this new Sun and within 2 days you will have lots of leaves.

And second those in the pics are definatly NOT Sabal Minor but rather Med Fan (chamaerops humilis) and yes, even in a zone 5, we can pick those up at Wal Mart for $20.00 here too. If you say you would like to get $100 for those, I first would have...

Has anybody else done the ole PineApple from the top method. I started this one about a year and a half ago. It has not put out a fruit yet, but I really couldn't care less as I just like the way it looks regardless of fruiting.

It was REALLY soaked in the spear. The best I can tell, it was geting close to flushing when it had Winter set in and so the leaves on the caudex had spread pretty far down which left the top very open. It had a plexyglass lid so it didn't get rain.

I can tell you this, the person who planted that tree, planted it WAY too close to the house. The spread on that when it gets bigger will be at least 5' at the very least.
