T. Fortunei and Musa Basjoo hardiness

How much cold can a trachy take before the fronds start to show damage? How many consecutive days below freezing can it take? I am wondering if I can get away with not heating my Trachy as my lows the last to winters were -13.6C and -12.4C, but we hace alot of days were the temp is around 0C and drop...

My trachy looks something like yours, I drenched it in copper-based fungicide, which took care of the mold in a few days, now the (brown) spear seems to be pushing up very slowly.

snowmanone, you should try a needle palm

you got the summers for it. Mikes website is montrealplants.com . Wide selection of palms for Canadian nursery...probably the most in eastern Canada.

Paul,

i got all the data from 1942 - 2009. I know most people would not believe anywhere in NL was z7 but i had to prove it to myself.
We got down to -23.8 like 4 times since 1942, we havent seen -20 since 1994...this is airport data (colder then St Johns West).

My growing zone

I got bored and got all the anual lows at the St John's airport (cooler then me by 3-5 C). There was 67 years worth and the average anual minimum of -17.5C, isnt that a zone 7a? Veseys say im a 5b? Heres the data I used. 1969s min. was -11.7C! http://www.climate.weatheroffice.gc.ca/climateData/month...
