For the last 100 years the abs. minimum in my town was registrated the last days of February 1951 (- 37,2 C). The second minimum some November's day 50 years ago (-34,2C). And minus 30 three or four times in history in January.

Depending on variety... I know the one selected in Alberta. Forsythia 'Northern Sun is cold hardy to zone 4.

Oh, boy! Mountains around my town is a center of apricots and apples natural origin. When they bloom the hills surrounded my house are looking like they are covered with pinkish clouds.

Jesse, it is no problem sowing apricot pits. It grows pretty fast. I have an apricot tree grown from the pit that is the same size as a Circassian walnut tree of the same age.

Here is a one growing at one private property not so far from my place. Has survived a few cold winters in Almaty. Barb, my "old" Recurvifolia died last spring so I've haven 4 or 5 suckers instead of it as well as a top of mature (died) plant rooted during the growing season.
