Here is a picture of my Trachy here in zone 6b/7a. This picture was taken 6-4-05. It's a 6 gallon size palm.

I'm growing Ensete ventricosum (Musa ensete). I was growing basjoo, but it sadly died indoors over the winter... :(

The ventricosum is very beautful though (Red and green leaves), and it grows very fast! :D

I love fortunei's because of their cold hardiness. In my zone 7a, so I can't be as picky about what palms I can grow. T. fortunei is the most cold hardy and very attractive, so I would have to say its my favorite! :D

Well Rick, the most cold hardy trunking palm, is the Trachycarpus fortunei(Chinese Windmill Palm). It is a zone 7b palm, cold hardy to 5F. I know for a fact, Cycas revoluta its a scavenger for nutrients, so it doesn't require much fertilizing. I would say, a good fertilizer high in nitrogen every sping would suit C. revoluta just fine. Phosphorus would also be a great element to give to your Sago once a year. :D

Beautiful Butia capitata!!!...I love Pindo Palms. I know for sure they love the heat, being from Brazil. Its surprisingly cold hardy though, considering its pinnate. Jelly Palms are popular in the southern United States. :D

I'm at the far boundary for growing palms outside...7a is about as far north as cold hardy palm growing gets. I would definitely settle for zone 8. I would love to grow Sabal palmetto's! But, I guess zone 7 beats zone 6!

I also have a Musa basjoo. Yes, M. basjoo can grow very large, up to 15 feet here. M. basjoo dies to the ground during the winter in my "kneck of the woods" and returns in the spring. :D

Its hard to explain what they look like...Their "alien like" in appearence. Pups form in the center of the Cycad on the conical bud. You will know them when you see them. They can be pinched off and planted. :D
